Summary

A gripping drama of sex, power and passion from the Spanish Golden Age.
A peasant wedding. Just as Peribanez and Casilda become man and wife, the Commander of the region is carried dying to their home. His waking sight of Casilda condemns him to a desparate love. Joy turns to despair and then to revolt in this gripping rediscovery of Lope de Vega's 17th-century classic.

LibriVox volunteers bring you 17 recordings of "You Bid Me Try" by Austin Dobson . This was the Weekly Poetry project for April 24, 2011.Henry Austin Dobson , commonly Austin Dobson, was an English poet and essayist. His official career was uneventful, but as a poet and biographer he was distinguished. Those who study his work are struck by its maturity. It was about 1864 that he turned his attention to writing original prose and verse, and some of his earliest work was his best. It was not until 1868 that the appearance of St Paul's, a magazine edited by Anthony Trollope, gave Harry Dobson an opportunity and an audience; and during the next six years he contributed some of his favourite poems, including "Tu Quoque," "A Gentleman of the Old School," "A Dialogue from Plato," and "Une Marquise." Many of his poems in their original form were illustrated—some, indeed, were written to support illustrations. (summary from Wikipedia)

"I just don't know if I'm ever happy. Like, really truly happy. Even if you sent me up to space, by day four I'd be worrying if I had enough stuff on my Kindle..."
What makes us truly happy? Health? Family? Professional success? Blasting it in the gym? Romance? Pills?
Or are we ignoring the bigger stuff? Real life-changing stuff that can devastate the world if we just keep ignoring it.
Glenn Waldron's surprising comedy The Here and This and Now takes a look at the pharmaceuticals business, the salaryman and woman, and the quest for happiness. It premiered at Theatre Royal Plymouth in March 2017.

Victorian Poetry – Volume 2 - An Introduction. Victoria’s reign was long and presided over the restless expansion of the British Empire and reams of creative genius. Within these volumes we can bring only a glimpse of the richness, beauty and words of their poets and their musings on this remarkable age. Many are world renowned – Tennyson, Browning, Arnold, Kipling, Austin, Hopkins, Hardy and Swinburne. Some almost forgotten – Patmore, Newbolt, Synge. And some barely noted – Lyall, Meynell and Merdeith. But together they encompass a great poetical age. In Volume 2 we collect together Thomas Hardy to George Meredith. Among our readers are Richard Mitchley and Ghizela Rowe.
