Sinopse

Symbol Usage Impact explores how visual language in comic books shapes the representation of LGBTQ identities. It examines the use of color, iconography, and attire as powerful tools for cultural expression and resistance. The book highlights how these visual elements can subvert stereotypes and foster community. For example, the strategic use of color palettes can evoke emotions or challenge traditional norms, while specific attire choices can signal gender identity and subcultural affiliations.

The book progresses by first establishing theoretical frameworks, then delving into the distinct roles of color, iconography, and attire. It analyzes how recurring images and motifs can become shorthand for LGBTQ themes. By combining art history, queer theory, and media studies, Symbol Usage Impact offers a nuanced understanding of visual communication and marginalized identities. This approach provides valuable insights for both academic researchers and general readers interested in LGBTQ representation and comic art.

Existentialism offers enduring lessons and insight on how to understand ourselves and improve our lives.
Your existence is not the result of a pre-determined set of events, it’s the direct result of your thinking and your actions, and therefore, according to Soren Kierkegaard, Frederick Nietzsche, Albert Camus, and other Existentialist philosophers, you have the freedom to control the outcome of your existence—sophisticated ""philosophy meets psychology"" self-help for the twenty-first-century.
As Kierkegaard and his ilk made clear in their respective works, human beings are moody creatures. Rather than understanding moods such as anxiety and depression as afflictions that can only be treated with a pill, the Existentialists regard these troublesome feelings as instructive, something revealing about what it means to be human. The Existentialists believed that how we negotiate our emotional ups-and-downs plays an important hand in the lives we sculpt for ourselves.
While offering listeners a useful primer on Existentialism as an animating body of thought, Marino distills and delivers the life-altering and, in some cases, life-saving insights Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Camus, and other Existentialists articulate for becoming more emotionally attuned human beings. Enhancing our sense of meaning in the midst of an uncertain world, Marino interjects gripping anecdotes from his own experiences to demonstrate how we can use existentialist thought to ignite truly transformative experiences.

Both Grant and Sherman shared the same theory of war: anything that might help the enemy's war effort should be considered a military target. After the Atlanta campaign, Grant explained to Sherman that the Confederates must be “demoralized and left without hope,” and he instructed Sherman, “Take all provisions, forage and stock wanted for the use of your command. Such as cannot be consumed, destroy. Leave the valley so barren that crows flying over it...will have to carry their provender with them.” This strategy sought the total economic collapse of the South, as well as completely disabling the South’s capability of fielding armies. In addition to the wholesale plundering of Southern resources, including taking them from civilians, the Union reversed its policy of swapping prisoners, realizing it had a far bigger reserve of manpower than the South. The Atlanta Campaign was a perfect example of this, as both sides lost about the same number of casualties. By September 1864, however, Sherman still had about 80,000 men, while Hood’s army was reduced to about 30,000.
Following the design of Grant's innovative and successful Vicksburg Campaign, Sherman's armies eliminated their need for traditional supply lines by living off the land. 	Ultimately, Sherman’s armies cut a path of abject destruction 60 miles wide and 300 hundred miles long from Atlanta to Savannah, which some likened to a Biblical blight. And as Sherman had intended, he did indeed made Georgia “howl.”
Due in large part to the March to the Sea, Sherman remains controversial across much of the United States today. The South considered him akin to a terrorist and adamantly insisted that he was violating the norms of warfare by targeting civilians. In many ways, Sherman is still the scourge of the South nearly 160 years after he vowed to make Georgia howl.

    1. Does self-knowledge come through searching? - 16 July 1949
    • What is it that most of us are seeking?
    • Does clarity come through searching and trying to find out what others say?
    • Can incessant search and longing give you the extraordinary sense of reality or
creative being that comes when you really understand yourself?
    • Without knowing your background and the substance of your thought, where
it comes from, surely your search is utterly futile and your action has no
    meaning.
    • The responsibility for any action depends on ourselves, not on others.
    • Q: Do I have to be at any special level of consciousness to understand you?
    • Q: The movement of life is experienced in relationship to people and to ideas.
