Sinopsis

What happens when the acclaimed international TV crime drama, Blue Bloods, inspires a story?

It brings to life Her, book one in the Illicit Things series.

Who knew being an author could be so dangerous…

After many successful years in Hollywood turning her books into movies, international best-selling Australian author Sydney Kingston makes the move to New York to find inspiration for the psychological thriller she wants to write. Soon she finds herself involved in a thriller being played out in the gritty streets of the city and not in the pages of her book.

From hate mail to death threats, peeping toms, break-ins, and missing items, it’s the dead body on her doorstep that really captures the attention of Police Commissioner Ryan and his four extremely good looking law enforcement sons. But when the obsessive attention from his teenage grandson takes centre stage, it threatens to tear the family apart in more ways than one.

Between stalkers, assault, an ex-boyfriend, and some very hot Ryans vying for Sydney’s attention, no one sees a more sinister plot in the making.

A plot that is far worse than murder.

William Evans Burton was born in London on the 24th September 1804.

Initially set for a career in the church he attended St. Paul's School in London. At 18, after the death of his father, he took charge of the family printing concern. He established a monthly magazine, which although a failure, brought him several theatrical acquaintances which then lured him towards the stage.

For several years he acted in low comedies around the provinces before debuting, to good notices, in London. In 1833 his own play ‘Ellen Wareham’, was, somewhat unusually put on at five different theatres on the same evening.

In 1834 his marriage of 10 years failed and he decided to relocate, by himself, to America. He soon leased a theatre, which he renamed ‘Burton’s Theatre’, in New York.

Three years later he established, with Edgar Allan Poe as its editor, the Gentleman’s Magazine in Philadelphia and wrote one of the earliest detective stories for it; ‘The Secret Cell’.

He and Poe had a difficult relationship, added to which Burton was frequently away in acting roles in other cities. By 1840 he had fired Poe and then sold the magazine to finance renovation work on his theatre, which some time later failed. Burton spend much of his remaining years editing magazines and writing books.

William E Burton died on the 10th February 1860 in New York City.

He left his fortune, among which was a library of over 100,000 books, to charity. His separated wife from decades earlier challenged the will and created legal history in eventually gaining ownership of the estate.

'I was immediately hooked on this story and the pages just flew by. It was over before I realised how deep into the book I was'⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Real reader review
'Exciting to the last pages'⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Real reader review
Detective Superintendent Jack Hawksworth is seconded by counter-terrorism to investigate a spate of domestic events. First it was needles in strawberries, then tampering with lipstick samplers and baby formula. But when toxic mushrooms hit the supermarket shelves and a death occurs, a wave of panic is set to sweep the country. Breaking news of a possible serial killer only heightens the alarm.
There are no leads, no DNA, no witnesses, no CCTV footage. Jack and his team must work on instinct to figure out why someone would want to harm innocent victims, each of them curiously linked to a single blood transfusion.
Then a hospital bomb threat erupts, and it's up to Jack's team to prevent the inevitable bloodshed. But the clock is ticking, and no one is safe from the possibility of a tragedy on a catastrophic scale.
