Sinopse

"Hittite Diplomacy" explores the sophisticated diplomatic practices of the Hittite Empire in the ancient Near East, revealing how this Bronze Age kingdom rose to prominence through strategic negotiation and alliance-building. The book highlights the critical role of treaties in establishing vassal states and regulating international relations. It also examines how the Hittites skillfully managed conflicts using both military strength and diplomatic maneuvering, essential for their survival in a turbulent world. The book demonstrates that the Hittites developed an advanced diplomatic system that profoundly impacted the political structures of the ancient world. For instance, the famous Treaty of Kadesh with Egypt exemplifies their approach to resolving conflicts through negotiation rather than solely through warfare.

Organized into three parts, the book first introduces the principles of Hittite diplomacy, then examines case studies of Hittite interactions with major powers, and finally synthesizes these cases to provide a comprehensive overview of Hittite foreign policy. This approach offers a fresh perspective on Hittite diplomacy, emphasizing proactive strategies designed to shape the international environment.

An indispensable guide to understanding the Israel–Palestine conflict, and how we might yet still find a way out of it.

"Ilan Pappe is the most original, radical and hard-hitting of Israel's 'new historians.'" —Avi Shlaim, author of Three Worlds

The devastation of 7 October 2023 and the horrors that followed astounded the world. But the Israel–Palestine conflict didn't start on 7 October. It didn't start in 1967 either, when Israel occupied the West Bank, or in 1948 when the state of Israel was declared. It started in 1882, when the first Zionist settlers arrived in what was then Ottoman Palestine. Ilan Pappe untangles the history of two peoples, now sharing one land. Going back to the founding fathers of Zionism, Pappe expertly takes us through the twists and turns of international policy towards Israel–Palestine, Palestinian resistance to occupation, and the changes taking place in Israel itself.

From the onset, the Nazi party were obsessed with the world of the occult. They scoured the globe in search of the weapons that would enable them to conquer the world and build their 1000 Year Reich.

From the Holy Grail to the lance that pierced the side of Christ... From Tibet to the Antarctic... no region or mythological device was ignored.

They turned the planet inside out looking for something ancient, something the Nazi elite called "the most powerful weapon"... a weapon that would instill such awe that it would cause the entire world to surrender overnight.

And then suddenly during the Second World War and perhaps even years before, the Nazi's achieved a massive leap in technology, so great that many have questioned where this Nazi science originated.

Individuals who decide to take up learning about the Old Testament of the Bible are immediately faced with the difficult proposition of identifying the various peoples that the Hebrews met and sometimes came into conflict with when they entered the territory that eventually became Israel. The Moabites and Edomites were just two of the many Canaanite groups that the Hebrews dealt with, often violently, but there were dozens of other Canaanite groups, which were all for the most part identified through the names of their respective cities.
In fact, before the Hebrews established a kingdom and before the Phoenicians colonized much of the Mediterranean, the Canaanites were the most important group in the Levant for much of the Bronze Age and into the early Iron Age. Although the Canaanites never created a unified nation-state or kingdom, their importance in the ancient Near East cannot be understated. It was at least partially because of that fact that the Canaanites were unable to resist their larger and more powerful neighbors that the average person today knows so little about their history, but modern studies have revealed that they developed a unique religion that influenced non-Canaanite peoples and continued to be practiced in some form centuries after the Canaanites ceased to be an identifiable people. Furthermore, during the height of the Bronze Age the Canaanites provided important resources to the Egyptian and Hittite Empires and played a key role in the geopolitical game of chess between those two kingdoms. It also goes without saying that the Canaanites were also a factor in the establishment of the Kingdom of Israel, as the battles they lost to the Hebrews later became the foundation of the Jewish kingdom.
Although the Old Testament provides a credible source for some aspects of Philistine culture, it paints a picture of them as a group of bloodthirsty warriors whose one purpose was to oppress the Hebrews/Israelites.
