Sinopse

Elise Nicholson isn't your ordinary witch. For one thing, she can light candles with a look, and she plays a mean guitar. Unfortunately, being able to call fire out of the air isn't the most useful skill around. To top it off, she's a Guardian of the City, and the other Guardians—her two best friends—have no time for her. They're too busy with their Watchers, the grim, black-coated warriors sworn to protect Elise and her friends from the Dark. Lonely, skating the edge of controlling her intensified "gifts," Elise is quickly running out of options and patience. Then the Trifero—a Talisman capable of blowing the city sky-high—lands in her lap, and everything just gets worse.
Remy is the Hunter, snatching Talismans away from the Dark and struggling with the constant agony of being a Watcher. Then he's assigned to stand guard over a smart-mouthed fire witch who not only hates Watchers, but has just found the Trifero. If the Dark catches Elise, she'll be broken, turned into a magical weapon, and sold to the highest bidder. Not only does Remy have to get to her first and keep the Dark away, but he also must convince Elise that he means her no harm—and that's the easy part of the job. If he pulls this one off, he just might redeem himself the way every Watcher aches to do. But if he fails, both he and Elise might be better off dead . . .

The Homecoming is Zoë Apostolides's debut novel. Quietly disturbing, it tells the story of Ellen, a young ghost-writer sent to record the memoirs of an elderly woman living in a remote Northumberland manor. Elver House is dilapidated, its faded beauty fading to ruin.
The assignment seems simple enough. Ellen will spend a week conducting interviews at the wild and sprawling estate – far from the quaint country cottage she had imagined – before returning to London to write Miss Carey's autobiography. She digs deeper into its history, its lore and mystique and its occupant's increasingly bizarre behaviour. Clearly it isn't just the past that's haunting Miss Carey. And in unravelling the tangled threads of the older woman's story, Ellen too must confront more about herself than she bargained for.
Part mystery, part ghost story, this is a story about isolation, memory, spirits and secrets, intergenerational friendship and motherhood.

The War Service of Sherlock Holmes" (1917). The collection's first US edition adjusts the anthology's subtitle to Some Later Reminiscences of Sherlock Holmes. All editions contain a brief preface, by "John H. Watson, M.D.", that assures readers that as of the date of publication (1917), Holmes is long retired from his profession of detective but is still alive and well, albeit suffering from a touch of rheumatism.

When Isabel "El" Watson applied for a sales job with her company, she had no idea a jelly donut would explode on her blouse, or that her grumpy boss would practically laugh her out of the interview. So when a lady at the local wine festival offers her a sales job on the spot at a new boutique winery, El jumps at the chance. She also jumps at the chance to text with the guy who danced with her at the festival.

Boston's friend, Chad, never should have given Boston's number to the girl at the wine festival as a joke. When El sends Boston a text later that night, believing he is Chad, he's too nice to hurt her feelings. But there are a few other truths Boston might have thought about:

    Truth #1: He's her boss

Truth #2: She just accepted a job at his mother's new winery

Truth #3: He's always had a crush on her

Even though Boston is no longer El's grumpy boss, they still work together at his mom's winery. And while sparks are flying as they get to know each other for real, El's kind of sweet on the guy who always seems to know just what to say via text too.

Will Boston come clean about the flirty texts being from him? Or will El figure out on her own that she's been Texting With the Enemy?
