Sinopse

Emotional Stability provides a practical guide for cultivating emotional balance and inner peace, addressing issues like mood swings, anxiety, and stress. It emphasizes that emotional regulation isn't about suppressing feelings but understanding and responding to them constructively. Did you know that consistent practice and self-awareness can significantly improve emotional regulation? Or that emotional instability substantially impacts relationships, work performance, and overall well-being? This book uniquely integrates insights from neuroscience, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), offering a comprehensive approach. It presents concepts like emotional intelligence and cognitive reappraisal in accessible terms, supported by clinical studies and real-life examples.

The book progresses by first explaining the science behind emotions and their impact, then detailing specific strategies for managing emotional triggers through mindful awareness and healthy coping mechanisms. It culminates by teaching you to integrate these practices into your daily life.

Few participants in World War I are more famous than Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen, better known as the Red Baron. A German known for victories in a war that his country lost, a cavalry officer made famous as mounted combat disappeared, and an aristocratic hero in a century dominated by democracy; Richthofen’s celebrity stands in stark contrast to the era. For the handful of men fighting in the air, it was a different matter, because World War I brought about the emergence of full-blooded aerial combat for the first time. In fact, airplanes were so foreign to past examples of warfare that few military officers were sure of how to utilize them at the start of the war. As a result, amazing new machines capable of carrying men at great speed and height were used first for reconnaissance, and it was only later that they actually became fighter planes, with each side fighting for dominance of the air and the advantage this provided. By the time he died at the age of 25, Richthofen was a living legend, celebrated by his fellow countrymen and feared by his enemies. Ironically, he had managed to become a celebrity soldier in an era of anonymous death.
Participating in both world wars was not nearly enough time in the air for the ambitious Eddie Rickenbacker. When he was not setting new records in the air, he was setting new speed records on the ground, most notably as a first generation race car driver who not only drove cars but designed them. He also served for decades as the president of one of the world’s first major commercial passenger aviation companies, Eastern Air Lines, seeing it through the ups and downs of the financial and technological boom and bust in America between the wars.

This Very Short Introduction brings together a wide range of narratives of slavery across a broad historical period to understand how Black people—enslaved and not-enslaved—have experienced and imagined slavery. It also investigates how slavery's long reach and afterlife has continued to shape Black life in the twenty-first century. By giving attention to the narratives produced during the last two hundred plus years, this volume examines American chattel slavery as a specific historical period that legally ended in 1865, and yet recognizes its impacts, effects, and significance as extending into the twenty-first century. Slave narratives tie the life of slavery its abolition with its afterlife and the reconfigurations that followed—Black Codes, Jim Crow segregation, and many other forms of disenfranchisement.Robert J. Patterson examines so-called "traditional" slave narratives alongside writings from non-enslaved Black people in the nineteenth century, the imaginative works of twentieth century fiction, and twenty-first century cinema to create a compelling and informative introduction to the long historical arc of slavery woven into the cultural and political fabric of America.

The Global Vipassana Pagoda in Mumbai was built to mark the birth centenary year of Sayagyi U Ba Khin, the Burmese Dhamma teacher of S.N. Goenka. The monument is built in the Myanmar style of the Shwedagon pagoda, as a token of gratitude to that country where the essence of the Buddha’s teachings was maintained in its pristine purity, and from where it is now spreading throughout India, and via India to the rest of the world. Mr. S.N. Goenka became the vehicle to make this happen and was the inspiring guide for every important aspect of this building project. Tremendous volition and effort went into the building of this staggering monument, and it is interesting and educative to explore the journey. Mr. Bikram Dandiya has beautifully chronicled some of these experiences in this booklet, The Jewel in Mumbai, the story of the making of the crystal bud atop the Global Vipassana Pagoda.
