Sinopse

In "Taoist Teachings From the Book of Lieh Tzŭ," Lie Yukou delivers an eloquent translation and interpretation of this foundational Taoist text, which is attributed to the philosopher Liezi. This book intricately weaves together parables and philosophical reflections that emphasize spontaneity, the relativity of concepts, and the exploration of the nature of the Dao (the Way). Written in a lyrical style reminiscent of classical Chinese prose, Yukou captures the rich metaphors and profound wisdom of the original teachings, allowing modern readers to appreciate the depth of Taoist philosophy within its historical context. Lie Yukou, a dedicated scholar of Taoist texts, draws from a deep well of both Eastern and Western philosophical traditions. His background in comparative literature and philosophy provides him with a unique lens through which he engages with the timeless wisdom of Liezi. The author's extensive research into ancient Chinese thought and practice enriches this work, making it not only a translation but also a thoughtful commentary on the application of these teachings in contemporary life. This book is recommended for scholars and lay readers alike who are interested in delving into the Taoist worldview. Yukou's insightful interpretations and the accessible style make it an essential addition to any library dedicated to Eastern philosophy, spiritual growth, or the greater quest for understanding the human experience.

How did the Olympic Games in Mexico City in 1968, Moscow in 1980 and Barcelona in 1992 reflect international tensions, despite the Olympics' political neutrality? In2024, what are the stakes for France in the Paris Olympics, against the backdrop of the Israeli-Palestinian and Russian-Ukrainian conflicts? Why have new powers such as China, Qatar and Saudi Arabia made the organization of the Games an objective of their influence strategy?

In his fourth book, Kévin Veyssière invites sports fans, geography buffs and the curious to explore the history of our world through the Olympic Games. Published in 1910, the book explores the nature of thought, inquiry, and problem-solving, particularly within the context of education and learning. Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880, in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Though born with the ability to see and hear, at 19 months-old she contracted an acute illness that left her both deaf and blind. Eventually, 20-year-old Anne Sullivan, herself visually impaired, became Keller's speech instructor. It was the beginning of a 49-year-long relationship during which Sullivan evolved into Keller's governess and eventually her companion. In 1914, Sullivan's health began to fail, so a young woman from Scotland, Polly Thompson was hired to keep house. Though she had no experience with deaf or blind people, Thompson progressed to working as a secretary, and eventually a constant companion to Keller. Keller went on to become a world-famous speaker and author. She was a suffragist, a pacifist, a radical socialist, and a birth control advocate. In 1915 she and George Kessler founded the Helen Keller International organization, devoted to research in vision, health and nutrition. In 1920 she helped to found the American Civil Liberties Union.
