ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK
"The Wonder," by Emma Donoghue, tells the story of Lib Wright, an English nurse, who is called to a remote Irish village in 1859 to observe a young girl, Anna O’Donnell, who claims to have not eaten for months. Lib's mission is to determine if Anna is a miracle or a fraud. As Lib observes Anna, she is faced with the conflict between scientific rationality and deep-seated religious faith that the girl and her community embrace. Lib battles her own skepticism as the lines between reality and belief become blurred and the girl’s health continues to decline. The story explores the themes of deception, faith, and the lengths people go to for what they believe, creating an atmosphere of tension and urgency.
