ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK 
The Fifth Season, by N. K. Jemisin, tells the story of a world called the Stillness, which is prone to devastating cataclysms known as Seasons. The narrative follows three different characters, Essun, Damaya, and Syenite, whose lives are interconnected, though they are separated by distance and circumstance. Each of these characters is an orogene, a person with the ability to manipulate earth and stone, which are feared by the general population. 
  
Essun is a mother who must travel to find her missing daughter after her son is murdered. Damaya is a young girl training at the Fulcrum, an institution for orogenes. Syenite is an orogene sent on a mission with a powerful mentor. The book explores themes of power, oppression, and identity. As the story unfolds, these three distinct narratives converge, revealing the truth about the nature of the world and the forces that control it. The characters must struggle against the oppressive system while also trying to survive in a world that is constantly in turmoil.
