Sinopsis

What is the definition of an apocalypse? When the word apocalypse is used, people immediately think of doomsday scenarios. On every street corner, they observe enormous mushroom clouds and scenes of widespread bloodshed and destruction.

The term apocalypse, on the other hand, has a vast definition. When teaching about the apocalypse, individuals often become overwhelmed as the details of the end times are explained. As the layers of Revelation are revealed one by one, it's natural to feel perplexed. It's easy to lose track of time in only a few minutes.

We can become so engrossed in the music that we become distracted by the notes on the paper rather than enjoying the song. We've been so preoccupied with minor things that we've lost sight of the greater picture...that God is in perfect charge.

The apocalypse is not meant to be perplexing; rather, it is meant to inspire confidence and tremendous hope in the hearts of believers. God will still be on the throne when the last word is said by the world's most powerful leaders.

    Read by the author.
Jesus through Medieval Eyes will take you on an exploration of medieval representations of Jesus in theology and literature.
Who is Jesus? What is he like? And who am I, encountering Jesus? These questions were just as important to Christians in the Middle Ages as they are today.
And yet—as C.S. Lewis noted—the modern church tends to forget that people of different cultures and times also thought carefully about who Jesus was; and sometimes their ideas and emphases were different.
Medievalist scholar Grace Hamman believes that we can deepen our understanding and adoration of Christ by looking to the Christians of the Middle Ages. Medieval Europeans were also suffering through pandemics, dealing with political and ecclesial corruption and instability, and reckoning with gender, money, and power. But their concerns and imaginations are unlike ours. Their ideas, narratives, and art about Jesus open up paradoxically fresh and ancient ways to approach and adore Christ—and to reveal where our own cultural ideals about the Messiah fall short.
Medieval representations of Jesus span from the familiar—like Jesus as the Judge at the End of Days, or Jesus as the Lover of the Song of Songs—to the more unusual, like Jesus as Our Mother. Through the words of medieval people like Julian of Norwich, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, Margery Kempe, and St. Thomas Aquinas, we meet these faces of Jesus and find renewed ways to love the Savior, in the words of St. Augustine, that "beauty so ancient and so new."

An Introduction to the Theology and Themes of 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus
The letters of 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus were written by Paul to trusted coworkers toward the end of his apostolic ministry. As Paul's delegates, they were to teach and defend the truth, model godly living, and ensure that godly church leadership was in place. But these letters are more than just a how-to guide for ministry.
In this volume of the New Testament Theology series, Claire Smith explores the central themes and theology of each letter, which consistently focus on God's eternal plan in Christ to save a people for himself. Emphasizing that we live between the two appearings of Christ Jesus in history, Smith encourages readers to live in this present time as God's household (1 Timothy), how to endure suffering as believers (2 Timothy), and how to live in an unbelieving world (Titus).

    - Part of the New Testament Theology Series: Other volumes include To Walk and to Please God; Ministry in the New Realm; United to Christ; and more
    - Resource for Church Leaders: Explores 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus, written to guide church leaders toward authentic and gospel-centered ministry
    - Great for Studying the Bible More Deeply: Perfect for pastors, seminarians, college students, and laypeople
