Sinopsis

Leianne McNair, mother of four and grandmother of three, managed to handle the cards that were dealt to her with grace and acceptance. Throughout her life, she experienced what it was like to be impoverished and then was lucky enough to encounter the wealth that Oil and Gas Companies can provide and then back before returning back to struggling financially. She never questioned why, and always did her best to fix things, until the year that her mother became gravely ill, and her mother-in-law was diagnosed with stage- four lung cancer—, things that were out of her control and beyond her ability to fix them. All at once, many unfortunate, very stressful incidents happened around the same time and Leianne found herself overwhelmed with grief and to the point that she knew something was terribly wrong. She learned things about grief that she did not know and how it can rear its ugly head in many different ways and the different ways it shows up.
Not only did what was about to happen to her did her journey become extremely overwhelming, but it also affected her children deeply and the definition of family took on a greater meaning. This is a story of a journey, which nobody wants to take but for those who have, may this book help you realize that you are not alone and somewhere out there is the help that you desperately seek.Edit Back Cover Text

John Creedon's scenes from an Irish childhood paint a colourful and sometimes hilarious picture of a changing Ireland and the growing pains of boyhood.
Set in a city-centre household bustling with humanity, the cast includes a dozen children and another dozen adults, including aunts, an American writer, an African doctor, and a Scottish bookie.
The streets outside overflow with brewery horses, beat clubs, dance halls, nuns, priests, a Turkish delight shop and a pub where a child could sit up on a high stool and smoke his cigarette in peace.
Creedon spent the sixties striding the streets of inner-city Cork, with summers 'farmed out' to friends and family in the countryside. His stories are set in wildly contrasting worlds, from urban exotica to spacious meadows, from tales of the open road to his classroom of over fifty boys.
These are stories of friendship, fun, family and folklore. The result is a heart-warming and revealing journey into an Irish boyhood.

The Independent Best Book for Walkers 2022Where can a walk take you?
It goes without saying, walking can connect us to our surroundings and free us from our worries. It can raise our heart rate and relax our minds. It can lead us across historic ground and inspire new thinking.
In this beautiful collection, twenty outstanding writers set out with old memories and new adventures. ‘I’ve always hated walking,’ Harland Miller offers as his precis, while Ingrid Persaud and Agnes Poirier consider the rituals of pilgrimage and protest march. ‘It isn’t a walking city,’ Kamila Shamsie writes of Karachi, though she strides across it regardless. On the shores of Foulness Island, Will Self hopes to avoid landmines. In a forest north of Berlin, Jessica J. Lee gets soaked, then lost. And pacing around Delhi, Keshava Guha is interrupted by a husky. ‘During the pandemic of 2020,’ he writes, looking back. ‘He was the only thing I hugged.’
These are stories to dip into, from all walks of life. Together they capture the magic and opportunity that can arrive when you put one foot in front of the other.
This collection features Tim Parks, Kamila Shamsie, Will Self, Nicholas Shakespeare, Irenosen Okojie, Ingrid Persaud, AL Kennedy, Cynan Jones, Sally Bayley, Joanna Kavenna, Kathleen Rooney, Richard Ford, Harland Miller, Keshava Guha, Agnès Poirier, Josephine Rowe, Sinead Gleeson, Pico Iyer, Patrick Gale and Jessica J. Lee.
This anthology is a literary tribute to the recreation of walking, a collection of essays that traverse the English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and European landscapes. It is a biography of the human spirit, a celebration of nature, and a testament to the enduring themes of our existence.
For fans of Pico Iyer (Autumn Light), Rebecca Solnit (Recollections of My Non-Existence), Samantha Harvey (The Shapeless Unease), Rachel Kushner (The Hard Crowd), and Olivia Laing (The Lonely City).

Upon returning home from golf on a rare afternoon free of responsibilities, Dr. Beverly Joyce, a busy and beloved OB-GYN, listened to a phone message that would shake her identity and send her on a life-changing journey of self-discovery. That call would instantly help free her from the hidden doubt, guilt, and shame that had plagued her throughout her life.
In The Birth of Joy, Joyce gives readers an intimate view into both her professional and private lives—as a child, a student, a physician, a mother, a daughter, and a coach. She chronicles her most influential life experiences and her journey to today, revealing with raw honesty and vulnerability how she effectively suppressed her childhood traumas while still excelling in her educational and professional endeavors. She describes the pressures of balancing career and family, trying to be the perfect doctor, daughter, wife, and mother, and eventually experiencing extreme burnout at being none of these. Her deep dive into physician wellness, spurred by her own need for healing and change, ultimately led her to discover her truest self and, with it, a deeper calling.
Throughout this deeply revealing and engaging memoir, Joyce attempts to answer the questions so many women physicians have struggled with: Who am I? What do I believe about myself? How do I find meaning and satisfaction in life as a physician and outside? What excites me and keeps me focused on the path ahead?
With honesty and grace in describing her journey, Joyce inspires readers to reflect on their own experiences and to search for and find their most authentic selves.

Goodbye Christopher Robin: A.A. Milne and the Making of Winnie-the-Pooh is drawn from Ann Thwaite's Whitbread Award-winning biography of A. A. Milne, one of England's most successful writers.

After serving in the First World War, Milne wrote a number of well-received plays, but his greatest triumph came when he created Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, and, of course, Christopher Robin, the adventurous little boy based on his own son. Goodbye Christopher Robin inspired the film directed by Simon Curtis and starring Domhnall Gleeson, Margot Robbie, and Kelly Macdonald. It offers the listener a glimpse into the relationship between Milne and the real-life Christopher Robin, whose toys inspired the magical world of the Hundred Acre Wood.

Goodbye Christopher Robin is a story of celebrity, a story of both the joys and pains of success, and, ultimately, the story of how one man created a series of enchanting tales that brought hope and comfort to an England ravaged by the First World War.
