Sinopse

"There is no place like home for the Bobbsey twins—especially when there is a mystery to solve!"

Nan, Bert, Flossie, and Freddie are back in Lakeport! While their previous adventures took them far afield, The Bobbsey Twins at Home proves that life in a busy household is never quiet. From winter snowstorms and sledding mishaps to the excitement of school days and local festivities, the twins find themselves at the center of every neighborhood event. When small mysteries begin to crop up around town—including a missing fire engine toy and strange happenings at the Bobbsey lumber yard—the older twins, Nan and Bert, must use their wits to set things right while keeping an eye on their energetic younger siblings.

The Heart of Lakeport: This volume provides the most detailed look at the Bobbseys' domestic life. Readers are introduced to the cozy atmosphere of their home, the bustling activity of Mr. Bobbsey's lumber yard, and the charming community of Lakeport. It captures a bygone era where the greatest thrills were found in simple community gatherings and outdoor play.

Early 20th-Century Childhood: The Bobbsey Twins at Home serves as a wonderful historical mirror. It describes the games, chores, and social expectations of children in 1916. Whether they are dealing with a school bully or planning a surprise for their parents, the twins handle every situation with the pluck and honesty that made them icons of American juvenile literature.

A Foundational Mystery: Before they were world travelers, the Bobbseys were neighborhood detectives. This book emphasizes the "everyday mystery"—lost items, misunderstood secrets, and the importance of helping neighbors. It is an ideal read-aloud book for families, fostering a love for storytelling and problem-solving in young readers.

Experience the warmth of a classic American childhood. Purchase "The Bobbsey Twins at Home" today.

"Greene had wit and grace and character and story and a transcendent universal compassion that places him for all time in the ranks of world literature . . ." —John le Carré

Graham Greene's first published novel tells the story of Andrews, a young man who has betrayed his fellow smugglers and fears their vengeance. Fleeing from them, with no hope of pity or salvation, he takes refuge in the house of a young woman, also alone in the world. Elizabeth persuades him to give evidence against his accomplices in court, but neither she nor Andrews is aware that to both criminals and authority, treachery is as great a crime as smuggling. The first step in a brilliant career, The Man Within offers a foretaste of Green's recurring themes of religion, the individual's struggles against cynicism, and the indifferent forces of a hostile world.

Alexander Kuprin was born in Narovchat, Penza in Russia on 7th September 1870.
At 3 his Father died and he and mother moved to Moscow. By 10 he was enrolled at the Second Moscow Military High School and there his interest in literature began. The Alexander Military Academy followed and two years later he was a sub-lieutenant and posted to an Infantry Regiment for a further four years.
Despite his duties he was a now a keen writer and published his first short story at this time. His military duties also garnered him experiences for his breakthrough work ‘The Duel’. Leaving the military he left for Kiev to work for local newspapers. He continued to publish both stories and novels and by 1901 he was in St Petersburg becoming part of a group that included Chekhov, Ivan Bunin, Maxim Gorky and Leonid Andreyev.
In the years that followed further controversial works and acclaim followed. His comments on the regime meant he was also put under secret police surveillance.
As World War I erupted, Kuprin opened a military hospital but was then given command of an infantry company in Finland. He was soon discharged on grounds of ill health.
The October Revolution saw him praise Lenin, but he warned that the Bolsheviks threatened Russian culture and might cause further widespread suffering to the peasants. As Civil War raged he took his family to Helsinki and then on to Paris.
Exile saw his talents decline further and his succumbing to alcoholism. He became lonely and withdrawn. The family's poverty increased his malaise.
In May 1937, the Kuprin’s returned to Moscow. He now saw his work published but wrote almost nothing new. In 1938 his health rapidly deteriorated. Already suffering from a kidney problems and sclerosis, he had now developed cancer of the oesophagus.

Enter a World Where the Mundane Meets the Macabre.

Nikolai Gogol was the ultimate eccentric of Russian literature, a writer who could find the cosmic absurdity in a missing nose or a provincial bribe. Before the psychological depth of Dostoevsky or the grand epics of Tolstoy, there was Gogol—the man who taught the world how to laugh at the tragedy of the human condition. This collection brings together his complete novels and longer prose works, capturing the transition from the vibrant folklore of the Ukrainian countryside to the haunted, bureaucratic streets of St. Petersburg.

This collection explores the pillars of Gogol's surreal genius:

The Master of the Grotesque: Experience a unique blend of the horrific and the hilarious, where characters are defined by their obsessions, their vanities, and their bizarre physicalities.

The Anatomy of Bureaucracy: Witness the biting satire of the Russian civil service, where the pursuit of rank and "proper" appearance leads to a total loss of the soul.

Laughter Through Tears: Discover the "Gogolian" style—a narrative voice that moves seamlessly from slapstick humor to profound, heart-wrenching pity for the "little man."

Supernatural Realism: Explore the eerie intersection of daily life and the demonic, rooted in the rich soil of Slavic myths and the cold shadows of imperial architecture.

Gogol's influence on the Russian soul is immeasurable, providing the DNA for every great Russian writer who followed. Whether you seek a riotous social comedy or a chilling delve into the uncanny, this volume is an essential cornerstone for any library of world literature and avant-garde classics.

Be careful what you wish for in the fog of St. Petersburg. Buy "The Complete Novels of Nikolai Gogol" today and own the work of a true visionary.
