Sinopse

Madame Bovary is the French writer Gustave Flaubert's debut novel. The story focuses on a doctor's wife, Emma Bovary, who has adulterous affairs and lives beyond her means in order to escape the banalities and emptiness of provincial life. Though the basic plot is rather simple, even archetypal, the novel's true art lies in its details and hidden patterns. Flaubert was a notorious perfectionist and claimed always to be searching for le mot juste ("the precise word").

Long established as one of the greatest novels ever written, the book has often been described as a "perfect" work of fiction. Henry James writes: "Madame Bovary has a perfection that not only stamps it, but that makes it stand almost alone; it holds itself with such a supreme unapproachable assurance as both excites and defies judgment." Giorgio de Chirico said that in his opinion "from the narrative point of view, the most perfect book is Madame Bovary by Flaubert".

The first time I spoke to Peter Greer, it was at my best friend's engagement party. He was introduced to me as her brother then, but I knew of him even before that.

For the many years I'd worked in the admin department at Pierce Goodman, Peter Greer was one of the untouchables. A person so high up the chain of command that a lowly admin assistant like me had no reason to speak to him directly.

Of course, that changed when I became friends with his sister. We were acquainted. You know the drill—a polite conversation here and there at a gathering, maybe an acknowledgment if we run into each other at work. But beyond that, I expected nothing.

That was, until the next time I met Peter Greer. Blindfolded. Oh, and minus both our clothes . . .

    Complicated? You have no idea.

Complicated is just the beginning of this story . . .

    Contains mature themes.

For such a determined person as Captain it doesn't sound like a sufficient reason. His love, care and high position in society can cover the difference in age. So he rushes to her place hoping to win this battle. The lady meets him with a gentle smile, through she's uncompromising in her decision. Age difference will become a problem in a couple of years and their marriage won't be happy. Courageous Captain calmly accepts this answer and goes back home. Conan the Barbarian, his mighty muscles smoothly rippling under his bronze and scarred skin, explodes into life in this early story by Howard. His awesome muscles and keen mind all come into play as he climbs, fights and swims his way to victory over the evil Black Seers of Yimsha. And steals the body and heart of the princess in the process of course.
This story is set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age and concerns Conan kidnapping a regal princess of Vendhya (pre-historical India) and foiling a nefarious plot of world domination by the Black Seers of Yimsha. Due to its epic scope and atypical Hindustan flavor, the story is considered an undisputed classic of Conan lore and is often cited by Howard scholars as one of his best tales. It is also one of the few Howard stories where the reader is treated a deeper insight on magic and magicians beyond the stereotypical Hyborian depiction as demon conjurer-illusionist-priests.
The People of the Black Circle" is one of the original novellas about Conan the Cimmerian, written by American author Robert E. Howard and first published in Weird Tales magazine in three parts over the September, October and November 1934 issues. Howard earned $250 for the publication of this story.
