A Christian case for natural burial
The promises of the Christian gospel are never more precious or more beautiful than in the context of death and burial. And yet current burial practices in Western society are archaic and impersonal. They fail to confront us with the reality of death, and they make it harder to process death or to grieve properly.
Kent Burreson and Beth Hoeltke have been teaching a Christian understanding of death and natural burial for many years. They argue that natural burial—laying the body into the earth in a way that allows it to decompose naturally—is not only better for the environment but is also a more accurate picture of Christian hope of the resurrection. Grounded in sound Christian teaching about death and burial, they advocate for natural burial and offer practical instructions for navigating the complex questions around burial practices.
Lay Me in God's Good Earth is not only an immensely practical guide to natural burial; it is also an application of the hope of the resurrection to those grieving the loss of their loved ones.

Way to Inner Peace, published in 1954, explores eight different themes on the path to a life of contentment and serenity. The first theme, Inner Peace, teaches that by “recognizing our own littleness in comparison to what we ought to be,” we both recognize the Greatness of God and find more patience with the faults within ourselves and others. On the theme of Goodness, Archbishop Sheen tells us that we find that which we look for in our lives. When we overlook good in favor of scandal and misdeeds, we invite these evils into our hearts.Regarding Happiness, it is not simply a matter of creating joy, but of actively working to dispel sadness and melancholy. When we internalize the fact that “...we are loved by God,” then we can cast off the shadow and live in the light of God’s joy. The section on Virtue includes chapters regarding selflessness and the evils of insincerity, as well as a chapter on war. At a macro level, war may seem out of place in a section on the virtue of the individual. But when we zoom in to the micro level, we see that war is the symptom of the moral failures in each of us. Another key to inner peace is Learning. Being able to wonder at the world, to learn, and to know and improve ourselves—only through such humility can we reach wisdom. With Wisdom comes the knowledge of when to speak and when to be silent. It teaches us how to practice patience and helps us to avoid judging others. Those that would be wise must listen more and speak less. In the section titled You, Archbishop Sheen warns against the vices of hatred and judgment. Crowd out the evil thoughts with good, for “A mind filled with ideas of love and beauty has little room for evil notions.”Finally, there is Faith, where we find relief from our burdens and cares. When we have the humility to look inward, view our faults with an open eye, and beg God’s help and forgiveness, then we are at our best.

    Hume’s Dialogues Concerning...

David Hume’s Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion had not yet been published when he died in 1776. Even though the manuscript was mostly written during the 1750s, it did not appear until 1779. The subject itself was too delicate and controversial, and Hume’s dialectical examination of religious knowledge was especially provocative. What should we teach young people about religion?

The characters Demea, Cleanthes, and Philo passionately present and defend three sharply different answers to that question. Demea opens the dialogue with a position derived from Rene; Descartes and Father Malebranche—God’s nature is a mystery, but God’s existence can be proved logically. Cleanthes attacks that view, both because it leads to mysticism and because it attempts the impossible task of trying to establish existence on the basis pure reason, without appeal to sense experience.

As an alternative, he offers a proof of both God’s existence and God’s nature based on the same kind of scientific reasoning established by Copernicus, Galileo, and Newton. Taking a skeptical approach, Philo presents a series of arguments that question any attempt to use reason as a basis for religious faith. He suggests that human beings might be better off without religion.

The dialogue ends without agreement among the characters, justifying Hume’s choice of dialogue as the literary style for this topic.

    A Gentle Guide
Long ago, in a village nestled between rolling hills and whispering trees, a group of children gathered every morning under the soft light of the sunrise. They were drawn by someone special, someone whose words felt like a warm embrace around their hearts.
    His name was Jesus.
With eyes as kind as the morning sun and a smile that made everyone feel safe, Jesus loved to sit with the children, sharing stories about the beauty of kindness, the power of love, and the joy of helping others. His words were gentle, like the touch of a soft breeze, yet filled with a wisdom that stayed with the children long after they heard them.
Every day, they learned something new: how to forgive, how to be brave, how to love even those who were different. Jesus showed them that, no matter how small they were, they could make the world a better place with the simple actions of a kind heart.
In this book, you will walk with these children as they discover the lessons Jesus taught them, lessons that are as precious today as they were then. Each story is a little seed, waiting to grow in the hearts of those who read it, spreading joy, love, and light.
So come along, and open your heart to the warmth of these stories. Let’s journey together to learn from Jesus, the gentle guide who believed that every child, and every act of kindness, could change the world.
