Sinopse

The Reluctant Dragon is an 1898 children's story by Kenneth Grahame (originally published as a chapter in his book Dream Days), which served as the key element to the 1941 feature film with the same name from Walt Disney Productions. The story has also been set to music as a children's operetta by John Rutter, with words by David Grant. The story takes place in the Berkshire Downs in Oxfordshire (where the author lived and where, according to legend, St George did fight a dragon). It is Grahame's most famous short story. It is arguably much more well-known than Dream Days itself or the related The Golden Age. It can be seen as a prototype to most modern stories in which the dragon is a sympathetic character rather than a threat.

In Grahame's story, a young boy discovers an erudite, mushroom-loving dragon living in the Downs above his home. The two become friends, but soon afterwards the dragon is discovered by the townsfolk, who send for St George to rid them of it.

Eight tropical tales set in different regions of the South Pacificby the renowned nineteenth-century author of The Call of the Wild and White Fang.   These stories, like his renowned Klondike Tales, are based on Jack London’s own travels and adventures. Including such stories as “The House of Mapuhi,” “The Whale Tooth,” and “The Inevitable White Man,” this collection describes the beauties and dangers of the South Pacific as colonist ships explore the islands.   “All in all, if you like nautical and sea adventures, if you are interested in the history of the Pacific Islands, or if you want to read gripping tales set in the exotic lands, this book will be perfect for you. But remember—it is definitely not a piece of light-hearted literature!” —Tales from Pasifika

Lady Eleanor Furneaux Smith (1902-1945) was an English author, journalist and film critic. Many of her books, including her extensive oeuvre of ghost stories, involve a circus or gypsy setting, based on her own research and her (unsubstantiated) belief that she had a Romany great grandmother.Satan's Circus is a creepy tale of a circus run by a sinister and manipulative couple, Carl and Lya Brandt. When a new circus hand, Anatole, joins the troupe in North Africa, he is assigned to work with the menagerie. But as they travel through Spain towards France, Anatole becomes uneasy.Eventually, as they reach the Basque country, he tries to hand in his notice. But Lya Brandt has guessed his secret, and she uses blackmail to prevent his leaving...and then exacts her grisly revenge for his disloyalty.

The idea of this book struck me as I was reading the daily newspapers. I found a column in which amazing real life incidents were stated - such as a man living in an unusual place, jewelry mysteriously disappearing, miracles taking place and many other strange yet interesting things. I liked these incidents so much that I couldn’t stop thinking about the various possibilities in which they would lead to and so I started to jolt them into words. I was surprised as I completed my first story within an hour, though fast it was only a couple of hundred words and so I challenged myself to write 15 such very short stories. These very short stories are filled with adventure, action, irony, tragedy and humor. Each story has its own world, language and shows the readers that this is the way of life and how it should be cherished. Toughest part was to give a name to this collection of very short stories, since they are so varied and could not be clubbed or categorized, frankly speaking I am not sure even now. The longest one among the collection stood out so I suggested calling the book by its name “An Evening with Lady Luck” I would like to thank my parents and my mentor Mr. Curtis Peter Van Gorder for making this audio book materialize in your hands; I hope this audio book helps you as it has helped me.----- Shreyans Ranjalkar

These fierce, funny and feminist short stories shine with everyday heroines at work and at play. Ordinary lives are transformed as women try to be themselves while clowning around for others.
Captured in familiar situations as well as in flights of fancy, the women in these stories are engaged in acts of self-preservation: they are exhilarated to discover the joy and surprise of other women's company, they make bold sexual choices, they go on a night-time excursions; as grandmothers, they give their grandchildren unsuitable presents.
In one story, a young woman and her mother harness their creativity to express their horror at the world around them. In another, a teenage mother struggles with her feelings for the father of her child. One of the tales follows a woman who experiences the freedom of the workplace while another shows how imprisoning it can be.
Compassionate, unexpected, and full of small triumphs in the face of adversity, this collection establishes Hannah Vincent as one of the freshest voices in contemporary fiction.
