The narratives often showcased the exploits of fictional investigators Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. Under the pen name Mary Westmacott, she authored six novels, including The Mousetrap, the world's longest-running play, captivating audiences in the West End since 1952. Christie's upbringing transpired in Torquay, Devon, within an affluent upper-middle-class household, where she received primarily home-based education. Facing six consecutive rejections as a writer, her fortunes changed in 1920 with the publication of The Mysterious Affair at Styles, featuring the detective Hercule Poirot. Archibald Christie, her initial spouse, and she married in 1914, producing one child before their divorce in 1928. Serving in hospital dispensaries during both World Wars endowed her with a profound understanding of poisons, a knowledge skillfully integrated into her literary works. Following her marriage to archaeologist Max Mallowan in 1930, she dedicated considerable time each year to Middle East excavations, incorporating firsthand insights into her novels.

This is a specially curated, abridged edition. The full, unabridged edition will be available soon.
In a world where we can feel so disconnected, bogged down by the motions and minutes that steal dreams and tuck the self out of sight, Muses and Muscle Memory: The Audio Experience invites you to sneak away and reconnect. There are moments — beautiful, chaotic, and in-between — that make us who we are; they're as ingrained as the bones beneath our skin. And there are muses — bursts or bodies — that inspire us to feel, to explore, to change, or to appreciate. But we need the space: to think, to remember, to create, or just to be.
Narrated by the author, Chris-Ann Miche, and sound designed by Joel Young, each poem pulls you into a vivid landscape of words, with sounds from everyday life, that ask you to sit, listen, breathe, and contemplate.
Touching on complicated themes like memory, grief, desire, love, fear, freedom, and more, Chris-Ann comes out of intellectual hiding to lead you through glimpses of her past and present, to give you a safe place to get lost, a secure place to feel, to linger in nostalgia, to explore longing and warmth, while considering what’s to come, away from the noise of the world.
In the words of RaeChelle-Faith Hamilton, "Chris-Ann truly has a gift. Her uncanny ability to pull you into her world, while evoking treasured moments from your own experiences, reflects empathy, and true craftsmanship. Her collection not only narrates her own life's questions, but beautifully and effectively reflects how we may also perceive the world, but are unable to find the words. Chris-Ann has not only found her voice but has managed to help us find our own.”

The story of the Vikings begins in the rugged, coastal lands of Scandinavia, where modern-day Norway, Sweden, and Denmark now stand. These northern regions, characterized by their cold climate, deep fjords, and dense forests, shaped a resilient and resourceful people. Isolated by geography and challenged by limited arable land, the early Norse communities developed a strong connection to nature, the sea, and their close-knit societies. Life in Scandinavia during the early Middle Ages was not easy, but it fostered a culture of survival, adaptability, and innovation.
At the heart of Viking society was a deep belief in their mythology and gods. Norse mythology offered a complex system of deities, heroes, and mythical creatures that guided the moral and spiritual lives of the people. Central figures like Odin, the wise All-Father; Thor, the thunder god and protector; and Freyja, the goddess of love and fertility, were not just worshipped but also deeply integrated into the everyday lives of the Norse. These myths were passed down through oral storytelling, poetic sagas, and ritual practices, helping to create a shared identity among the diverse Scandinavian tribes.
Viking society was organized into a hierarchical structure that valued strength, honor, and loyalty. At the top were the jarls, or chieftains, who held power over clans and led warriors into battle or on raids. Below them were the karls, the free farmers, craftsmen, and traders who formed the backbone of Viking communities. At the bottom were the thralls, or slaves, who were usually captured during raids or born into servitude. Despite this stratification, Viking culture emphasized personal achievement and reputation, allowing individuals to rise in status through bravery, skill, and loyalty.
