Synopsis

For any caregiver who ever needed to feel renewed, Kathryn Leigh Scott offers a compassionate acknowledgment of the love, patience, and determination it takes to do the right thing for yourself and for those you love.

When Kathryn Leigh Scott's husband, Geoff, was diagnosed with a terminal illness, she had to become his caregiver. As powerless as she was to stop the effects of the disease, she needed to be there for him. She wanted to be. And as much as she hated to admit it, the situation was taking its toll.

Stressed out, isolated from friends, and emotionally and physically exhausted, Kathryn joined a caregiver support group. This circle of empathetic new friends encouraged her to recapture her own sense of being. With their help, she learned that the best way to care for Geoff was to take care of herself as well. It became a welcome respite…and a necessary one.

A passionate memoir about identity, resilience, and the healing power of forgiveness

From her earliest memories, Minu felt like an outsider. It wasn't just her peculiar name, but also her light skin and cinnamon-swirl hair—so unlike the dark features of her Mexican family—that drew comments from neighbors and strangers.

No one took her questions seriously, leaving her yearning for answers. Meanwhile, she had to endure her father's violence, her mother's negligence, and the poverty and drugs in Cashion, Arizona.

Determined to carve out her own destiny, Minu embarked on a journey to uncover the mysteries of her past. After years of lies and mistreatment, she finally found the strength to confront the one person who knew the truth—the one person who could give her the peace she so desperately longed for.

Written with passion and grit, The Painted Pink Dress is an extraordinary true story about overcoming trauma and forging a path forward. Most of all, it is about the power of forgiveness and resilience in the face of hardship.

    Contains mature themes.

Actor Rahul Bose lends his golden voice to some ethereal love letters written by some great personalities from the bygone era.

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), one of history's most famous and mysterious composers died at the age of 57 with one great secret. Upon his death, a love letter was found among his possessions. It was written to an unknown woman who Beethoven simply called his Immortal Beloved.

The world may never know the circumstances of their affair and his letters are all that is left of a love as intensely passionate as the music for which Beethoven became famous. Compositions such as the Moonlight Sonata as well as Beethoven's many symphonies express eloquently the tragedy of a

    relationship never publicly realized.

    July 6, 1806

My angel, my all, my very self — only a few words today and at that with your pencil — not till tomorrow will my lodgings be definitely determined upon — what a useless waste of time. Why this deep sorrow where necessity speaks — can our love endure except through sacrifices — except through not demanding everything — can you change it that you are not wholly mine, I not wholly thine?

Oh, God! look out into the beauties of nature and comfort yourself with that which must be — love demands everything and that very justly — that it is with me so far as you are concerned, and you with

me. If we were wholly united you would feel the pain of it as little as I!

Now a quick change to things internal from things external. We shall surely see each other; moreover, I cannot communicate to you the observations I have made during the last few days touching my own life — if our hearts were always close together I would make none of the kind. My heart is full of many things to say to you – Ah! — there are moments when I feel that speech is nothing after all — cheer up — remain my true, only treasure, my all as I am yours; the gods must send us the rest that which shall be best for us.

    Your faithful,

    Life of Christ

    Giuseppe Ricciotti

Unabridged English Translation including 92 footnotes.
An instant best-seller in Italy, Vita di Gesù Cristo ("Life of Jesus Christ") was also highly praised by Catholic peer journals worldwide and has never since been out of print. The author, Giuseppe Ricciotti, was an archaeologist and Biblical scholar. After his seminary studies and completing mandatory military service, he was ordained a priest in 1913 and continued his studies at the University of Rome. During World War I he served as a military chaplain, volunteering for service at the front lines, for which he was later awarded a Silver Medal of Military Valor. After the war, he resumed his studies and graduated in 1919 with a degree in Biblical Studies. During World War II, he took in many refugees at the congregation's Motherhouse the Basilica of St. Peter in Chains.
    Excerpt from the Author's Preface:
I have studied the ancient fact and not the modem theory, the solidity of the documents and not the flimsiness of any interpretation presently the fashion. The first vague notion of writing this book came to me many years ago in extraordinary circumstances. I had been carried to a field hospital set up in a wood of fir trees in a valley among the Alps. For some time, I hovered between life and death. And awaiting my fate, it suddenly came to me that if I should live, I might write a life of Christ; his Gospel, in fact, was on the straw mattress beside me. The thought never left me; it became a kind of spiritual necessity. I have studied the ancient fact and not the modem theory, the solidity of the documents and not the flimsiness of any interpretations presently the fashion. I have even dared to imitate the famous "dispassionateness” of the canonical Evangelists, who have neither an exclamation of joy when Jesus is born nor a word of lament when he dies. It has been my intention, then, to write a critical work.

William Wymark Jacobs was born on 8th September 1863 in Wapping, East London.
He was educated at a private school and then Birkbeck Literary and Scientific Institution, now part of the University of London.
In 1879, Jacobs began work as a clerk in the civil service, in the Post Office Savings Bank. In 1885 his first short story was published but it was not until almost the turn of the century that he would abandon his post office career to that as a full-time writer. By then he was a very popular author, his collections selling extremely well and with an excellent income.
His best-known work is the macabre ‘The Monkey's Paw’ and he is also highly regarded for his ghost stories although much of his remaining short story output is streaked with humour. His characters are immediately identifiable and we all know that life will take chunks out of them in no time at all.
Jacobs married the noted suffragette Agnes Eleanor Williams in 1900 at West Ham, Essex. They went on to have two daughters and three sons as they settled down to life.
By the outbreak of the First World War his literary output had declined and he now mainly spent his time rewriting his earlier stories for the stage. In all he wrote 18 plays.
W W Jacobs died on 1st September 1943 at Hornsey Lane, Islington in London. He was 79.

Line of Duty holds its status as the defining TV crime drama of today. The conspiracy theme of the series chimes at a time when public institutions and representatives are distrusted.
Ted Hastings, the show's head of anti-corruption, has emerged as the beating heart of the series. This book reveals how the compelling drama reflects real crimes, events and figures, most notably that of Robert Mark and his battle against Met corruption.
‘None of my people would plant evidence. They know I would throw the book at them… followed by the bookshelf’
Starting with a bang – ‘I’ll put you all back in uniform’ were his first words to his team. New Met Commissioner Robert Mark – the inspiration for Ted Hastings – took on his entire corruption-riddled detective branch in his first brutal speech. The scale of the problem facing Robert Mark was institutionalised corruption in CID.
During his four years eleven months as commissioner, he saw 478 men leave the force following or in anticipation of criminal/disciplinary proceedings. Departures in the previous decade had averaged about 16 a year.
Mark's extraordinary career established the need for a dedicated team to investigate corruption that lives on today.
