Synopsis

It turns out there’s more to dog sled racing than playing with cute, fluffy doggies.

Carly was pretty sure the world of dog sled racing would be the best adventure ever. She loves dogs! What could be better than playing with them all the time? Soon Carly’s head is spinning with too much information…ganglines, and dog commands, and which dog gets to be lead dog. Maybe dog sledding isn’t the thing for her, after all. But when a musher friend goes missing during a race, Carly has to make a choice. Does she give in to her fears, or does she jump on a sled and face the dangers of the trail?

Musher Carly is the seventh book in the Carly’s Cave series by Kathi Walker. Written for early readers, this series blends adventure, education, and lots and lots of fun. If you like Magic Tree House, you’ll love Carly’s Cave!

A young Sikh footballer reaches out across the generational divide to help a lonely old man in an uplifting story from acclaimed author Bali Rai.
Bobby Bains loves football. He also loves helping other people. As a Sikh, it’s part of his religion. While helping his mum at the community food bank, Bobby meets an old man called Trevor, who seems lonely.
Bobby thinks Trevor would get on well with his nana-ji, his grandad. Both love football and reggae music. But Nana-ji and Trevor have dodgy old knees and can’t run like they used to. So, Bobby hatches a plan to get them playing. They could use the exercise and perhaps Trevor won’t feel so lonely any more.
Will Bobby’s plan work? It’s a big ask, but, after all, if you don’t shoot, you don’t score!
Particularly suitable for readers aged 9+ with a reading age of 8.
Bobby's faith and love for sports, especially football, are the driving forces behind his actions. His plan, though ambitious, is a testament to his juvenile spirit and his understanding of the social themes that surround him.
