Sinopsis

Martian Water explores the compelling search for water on Mars and its profound implications. This quest is crucial, as water is essential for potential habitability and future human missions. Understanding Martian geology and atmospheric science is key, with the book tracing water-related discoveries from ancient riverbeds to subsurface reservoirs.

Intriguingly, data from Mars missions reveal evidence of hydrated minerals and potential subsurface water sources. The book examines the scientific methods used to detect water, such as remote sensing and in-situ analysis, while also addressing the challenges of utilizing Martian water resources.

It synthesizes findings from missions like NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and Curiosity rover, offering a comprehensive understanding of the Red Planet's water. Martian Water progresses from fundamental concepts to the implications for future Mars missions, including resource utilization and the search for life, making it valuable for anyone interested in space exploration and scientific discovery.

Liberalism as a Way of Life

Where do you get your values and sensibilities from? If you grew up in a Western democracy, the answer is probably liberalism. Conservatives are right about one thing: liberalism is the ideology of our times, as omnipresent as religion once was. Yet, as Alexandre Lefebvre argues in Liberalism as a Way of Life, many of us are liberal without fully realizing it—or grasping what it means. Misled into thinking that liberalism is confined to politics, we fail to recognize that it's the water we swim in, saturating every area of public and private life, shaping our psychological and spiritual outlooks, and influencing our moral and aesthetic values—our sense of what is right, wrong, good, bad, funny, worthwhile, and more. This eye-opening book shows how so many of us are liberal to the core, why liberalism provides the basis for a good life, and how we can make our lives better and happier by becoming more aware of, and more committed to, the beliefs we already hold.

A lively, engaging, and uplifting guide to living well, the liberal way, Liberalism as a Way of Life is filled with examples from television, movies, stand-up comedy, and social media—from Parks and Recreation and The Good Place to the Borat movies and Hannah Gadsby. Along the way, you'll also learn about seventeen benefits of being a liberal and practical exercises to increase these rewards.

National Ballot Measures 2024 - Living Democracy is my gift to the country that I love dearly and have always wanted to see it survive, thrive and improve.
Whenever I am forced to listen to a speech made by any of our Congressmen or women, I will often count the number of times they will refer to America as a 'Democracy'. They use that word an average of 15 to 20 times per speech.
They'll say things like - "Democracy is not pretty." Or they'll say, "Democracy is messy and people don't want to see how the sausage is made." Or they will say that people are trying to "end the 'American experiment in Democracy."
Or they'll quote one of the greatest of the founding fathers - Benjamin Franklin who was asked as the signers of of the Constitution were leaving: "Mr. Franklin, what kind of government have you given us?"
And Franklin replied: "A Republic, Madam, if you can keep it."
And so, we can take from this very portentous comment from Ben Franklin that the founding fathers were well aware that there would be forces someday who would try to take even this very modest amount of democracy - a Representative form of Democracy away from us.
It would take almost 250 years for this prediction to come true, but here we are under the threat of a dictatorship that could be forced upon us any minute will certainly spell the end of the American Experiment in Democracy, or it will cause a huge upheaval, perhaps even another Civil War, as many are predicting.
Not if we make a MAJOR IMPROVEMENT in our form of Government. .
Every election more than half of our registered voters sit it out and the reason is that every election we find ourselves voting for the same old same old. With the modern technology we have gained, there is no reason why we cannot vote on National Ballot Measures instead of two men in suits.

“It’s good to learn from your mistakes. It’s better to learn from other people’s mistakes.” ~Warren Buffet
Crisis manager George Pillari takes the reader through a series of real-life case studies to show us that decision making in tense situations is a skill to be learned and perfected. Different from most business books that talk about recipes for success (improve your habits, be more productive, etc.), Stupidities highlights what you need to avoid in order to be successful.
In his foreword to the book, Guy Kawasaki sums it up:
“80% of success is avoiding stupidity.”
We learn from the success and failures of Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Oprah Winfrey, Elizabeth Holmes, Google X, JP Morgan, the New York Yankees, the Titan Sub, Thomas Edison, Taylor Swift, and others.
    The Seven Deadly Stupidities:
    Going for the Moonshot
    Surrendering to FOMO
    Relying on Family and Friends
    Being Blinded by the Upside
    Trusting the Media
    Using Quick and Dirty Thinking
    Neglecting to Measure Twice
There is the amazing story of Soviet General Petrov, who avoided all seven of the stupidities and prevented a global thermonuclear war.
The chapter-by-chapter format lets the reader thumb through and pick the order to read the book. The summary of each stupidity includes lessons learned and advice on how to avoid the stupidity and “be smarter.”
We are twice as likely to respond to negative events than positive ones. Pillari uses this behavioral sciences insight to guide the reader through how to learn from the failures of others and become a better decision-maker.

"The Golden Sayings" is a collection of practical teachings and advice by Epictetus, a Stoic philosopher who lived in the first century AD. The book emphasizes the importance of self-mastery, rationality, and living a virtuous life according to Stoic principles. Epictetus emphasizes that true wealth comes from having few wants, and that one must be in control of oneself to truly be free. He also emphasizes the importance of responding to events in a rational manner, focusing on what one can control rather than what one cannot. The book encourages humility, the practice of self-reflection, and an attitude of gratitude towards what one has rather than lamenting what one lacks. Read in English, unabridged.
