Sinopse

Giants Bones Found delves into the intriguing possibility that giants, often relegated to myth, may have actually existed. The book explores archaeological evidence, such as unusually large skeletal remains, and aligns these discoveries with historical texts, including the Book of Numbers, challenging conventional understandings of human origins. It invites readers to reconsider the established timeline of human evolution by examining overlooked or dismissed findings, particularly in the context of ancient narratives. Could the stories of giants be more than just legends? The book uniquely cross-references archaeological data with specific details from the Book of Numbers, creating a framework for interpreting ambiguous findings related to giant bones. It meticulously analyzes skeletal remains, artifacts, and architectural anomalies, presenting a case for hominids significantly larger than modern humans. This approach allows for the reevaluation of accepted historical narratives and explores why such evidence might have been suppressed or misinterpreted. Unfolding systematically, Giants Bones Found begins by examining the concept of giants in mythology and religious texts, then transitions to presenting archaeological findings from various sites worldwide. It analyzes these findings using standard archaeological methods and correlates them with historical accounts. Ultimately, the book encourages a critical evaluation of historical narratives and a more open-minded approach to evidence that challenges established paradigms within science and history.

This is a thriller which traces the history of the Stevens family from 1916 to 2020, covering four generations. What is so unusual about this family is that they are all special intelligence operatives and serve in an ultra-secret unit answering to senior military officers appointed directly by the King. In each generation, the eldest son is selected to carry on the tradition when he reaches the age of 21 years. The operatives are highly-trained as intelligence agents, and their role is to act as judge, jury and executioner of the targets selected. The targets are men and women who have been engaged in treasonous activities or conducting espionage for a foreign power, but the agent has been given the discretion to satisfy himself that the charges are justified before he executes the offender.

There are a lot of books about writing out there. If you’re like most writers, you’ve just about read them all. But learning how to write (and organize and outline and plot and edit and save the cat and market a breakout book) is one thing. Making and living a sustainable creative life in the face of...everything...is an entirely different matter. To know how to do that, we need to take a look at what goes on between the lines of our lives as writers so that we can live them with maybe a little more thought and intention--no matter the many interior and exterior obstacles that can threaten to derail our purpose.
In this companion book to her long-running podcast, Sara Zarr brings her sixteen-year publishing career and experience as a speaker, teacher, and mentor to a conversational and encouraging collection of hard-won insights about what it means not to just write (and perchance to publish), but to be a writer.

Beyond 1619 brings an Atlantic and hemispheric perspective to the year 1619 as a marker of American slavery's origins and the beginnings of the Black experience in what would become the United States by situating the roots of racial slavery in a broader, comparative context.

In recent years, an extensive public dialogue regarding the long shadow of racism in the United States has pushed Americans to confront the insidious history of race-based slavery and its aftermath, with 1619—the year that the first recorded enslaved persons of African descent arrived in British North America—taking center stage as its starting point. Yet this dialogue has narrowed our understanding of slavery, race, and their repercussions to the U.S. context. Beyond 1619 showcases the results when scholars examine and put into conversation multiple empires, regions, peoples, and cultures to get a more complete view of the rise of racial slavery in the Americas.

Painting racial slavery's emergence on a hemispheric canvas, and in one compact volume, provides historical context beyond the 1619 moment for discussions of slavery, racism, antiracism, freedom, and lasting inequalities. This volume shines new light on these topics and illustrates the centrality of racial slavery, and contests over its rise, in nearly every corner of the early modern Atlantic World.

The Métis people, later one of the three recognized aboriginal groups in Canada, were an indigenous group that came from marriages between French traders and native women, but Scotch and English cultures were also heavy influencers among the Métis. The term comes from a Latin word for “to mix” and originally referred to the children of these relationships, but the Métis would grow to become a major intermediary between the white settlers moving across North America and native fur traders, and during the 19th century, the Métis “considered themselves a separate nation, different from other people, including the Indians and the French.”
Like other native groups, as settlers began further encroaching on territory they inhabited, tensions boiled. In June 1816, a group of Métis attacked Red River colonists and their acting governor at a point known as Seven Oaks. Cuthbert Grant, a Métis fighter, had carried out several attacks against the Red River Colony and Hudson’s Bay Company’s posts, and this pattern would continue until the whites were driven out of Red River altogether.
Of course, that local victory wouldn’t stop the inexorable march of settlement altogether, and over the decades, there would be more fighting, with the most notorious outbreak coming in the 1880s. That resistance movement is widely known today as the North-West Rebellion, and all the factors that had gone into forming Canada as it is recognizable today would be at play.
