Sinopse

From the Earth to the Moon is one of Jules Verne's most visionary and influential novels, a pioneering work of science fiction that astonishingly anticipates humanity's real journey into space. Set in post–Civil War America, the story centers on the members of the Baltimore Gun Club, a group of inventive artillery enthusiasts who turn their talents toward an audacious new goal: launching a projectile to the Moon.

Led by the bold and charismatic Impey Barbicane, the Gun Club devises an unprecedented plan to construct a massive cannon capable of firing a space-bound capsule beyond Earth's atmosphere. As scientific debates, engineering challenges, and international rivalries unfold, the novel blends technical detail with humor, satire, and a deep fascination with human ambition. The arrival of the eccentric Frenchman Michel Ardan adds a daring twist that transforms the project from a theoretical experiment into a manned lunar expedition.

More than a tale of invention, From the Earth to the Moon is a celebration of scientific curiosity and imaginative daring. Verne's remarkable attention to mathematics, physics, and astronomy—combined with his flair for storytelling—makes the novel both intellectually stimulating and thrillingly entertaining. A cornerstone of classic science fiction, this timeless work continues to inspire readers with its bold vision of exploration, innovation, and the limitless reach of the human imagination.

What happens when love is felt deeply but never spoken aloud? In “Feuille d’Album” by Katherine Mansfield, a shy and socially awkward young man observes the woman who lives across from him, constructing an entire emotional world from brief glances and silent longing. His affection grows not through conversation or action, but through careful watching and inward reflection. Set in a quiet European city, the story unfolds as a delicate study of romantic idealism, isolation, and the fear of human connection. As the young man’s inner life becomes richer and more intense, the gap between imagination and reality slowly narrows - until a single, fragile moment forces him to confront the limits of his private dream. With her signature psychological precision, Mansfield captures the vulnerability of unexpressed love, revealing how desire can flourish in silence. Press play and step into one of her most subtly moving short stories, where longing lives in the space between seeing and being seen.

In Eve's Ransom , George Gissing weaves a poignant and ironic tale of love, loss, and economic desperation in Victorian England. The novel follows Harold Transome, a struggling schoolteacher who returns to London after years abroad, only to find himself entangled with Eve Mayfield, a beautiful young woman trapped in poverty. Drawn into a relationship that blurs duty and desire, Harold sacrifices his modest livelihood to support Eve, believing he is rescuing her from hardship. But as their bond deepens, so too does the complexity of their emotional and financial dependence. Gissing masterfully critiques romantic idealism and gender dynamics, exposing the harsh realities beneath sentimental illusions. A quiet tragedy of misplaced devotion and social constraint, Eve's Ransom explores the cost of love when it becomes an obligation rather than a choice.
