Summary

Have you stood in front of a painting and thought, What does this mean?
The Art of Faith answers this question again and again, with insight, wit, and verve, providing a thorough reference to Christian art through the centuries. Practical and easy to read, this book unfolds the ancient world of Christian images for believers who want to enrich their faith, college students studying art history, and travelers to religious sites. With this book in hand, you can visit museums, churches, or other sacred places and identify a work of art's style and meaning. Or even explore the signs and symbols of your local church.

Whatever your relationship to art or Christianity, open this book when you're curious about a painting, sculpture, symbol, or other sacred work. It will answer your questions about The Art of Faith.

"Couchman offers a readable and user-friendly guide to deciphering and interpreting Christian visual art. She is rightly keen to meet the urgent need for a new depth of theological vision in the church and beyond."
—Jeremy Begbie, Duke Divinity School; Author of Voicing Creation's Praise: Towards a Theology of the Arts

With gorgeous photos, a renowned textile artist guides you through the details of her creative process—and twelve amazing projects.

The embroidery of Jane E. Hall is breathtaking, and in this book she combines her love of butterflies with her outstanding talent as a textile artist to produce three-dimensional renditions of exquisitely worked butterflies almost indistinguishable from the real thing.

Using the finest of silk threads and needles, Jane lovingly creates her butterflies’ wings using the tiniest of stitches worked on to silk. They are then carefully cut away and the edges strengthened with hair-fine wire before being attached to the bodies, crafted from air-drying modelling medium and brushed with whisper-thin threads to resemble hairs. The butterflies are then placed within a setting of silk leaves and flowers, all made with the same painstaking attention to detail and expert skill as the butterflies themselves.

This book provides a fascinating introduction to butterflies in nature, reflecting Jane’s love and admiration for these exquisite creatures, and goes on to describe the materials and methods Jane uses to produce her incredible creations. Twelve projects, each based on a different butterfly including the Painted Lady, Small Tortoiseshell, and Brimstone, present the finished piece along with the materials Jane used, and the photographs, swatches, drawings, and paintings that inspired it.

Sell Your Photos & Videos Online

By selling my photos and videos online I have earned more than 100 thousand euros, thanks to microstocks: agencies that provide webmasters, marketers, documentary directors and anyone who wants to buy content created by others to use on their projects.
As a photography enthusiast, I traveled the world with my reflex camera paying for flights and hotels with the sales of my images and videos. This was incredibly satisfying, but not easy at all, as I had to learn which subjects sold the best, how to describe my pictures and footage to be found by customers, and how to organize the production to be more efficient.
Over the years I became so professional that in the end I was able to give up my job and start living the life I wanted.
For those who want to start today, no big investment is needed: uploading to microstock sites is free, and the only necessary equipment is the camera you already have, or even your smartphone.
The real challenge is understanding what photos and videos the buyers want. If you don't get the help of someone who has studied this business, you will have no chances for making good money.
The earnings I got prove that I am the right person for you, and the explanations that I give in "Sell your Photos and Videos Online" will make the difference between making small change and creating an income that can improve the way you live.

Le Guide Culinaire can be regarded as the ‘Bible’ of modern cooking. It was Escoffier's attempt to codify and streamline the French restaurant food of the day. The original text was printed for the use of professional chefs and kitchen staff; Escoffier's introduction to the first edition explains his intention that the book be used toward the education of the younger generation of cooks. This usage of the book still holds today; many culinary schools still use it as their core textbook. The book overall is 900 pages long and contains over 2500 recipes. Part 1 is 120 pages long and describes the basic principles and techniques required for the chef, including descriptions of more than 250 recipes and preparations.
