Sinopse

In "Joyce Kilmer: Prose Works," Kilmer displays his remarkable versatility as a writer, transcending his well-known poetic fame to delve deeply into prose. This collection features a range of essays, short stories, and reflections that illuminate his thoughts on nature, humanity, and spirituality. Kilmer's signature lyrical style permeates the texts, intertwining vivid imagery and philosophical meditations, echoing the themes prevalent in the early 20th-century literary movement. The collection not only showcases his prowess in prose but also positions him within the broader context of American literature, reflecting the transitional period between Romanticism and Modernism. Joyce Kilmer was a prominent poet, critic, and journalist, whose creative journey was profoundly influenced by his experiences and beliefs. Born in 1886, Kilmer's engagement with literature was driven by his love for nature and a strong spiritual consciousness, leading him to emphasize themes of beauty and morality in his works. Additionally, Kilmer's service as a soldier during World War I instilled a sense of urgency and introspection in his writing, as he grappled with the tumultuous realities of life and death in his later years. Readers seeking an enriching literary experience will find "Joyce Kilmer: Prose Works" an indispensable addition to their libraries. It offers a poignant exploration of human experience through Kilmer's unique lens, inviting the reader to ponder the complexities of life through eloquent prose. As It Turns Out is a family story. Alice Sedgwick Wohl is writing to her brother Bobby, who died in a motorcycle accident in 1965, just before their sister Edie Sedgwick met Andy Warhol. After unexpectedly coming across Edie's image in a clip from Warhol's film Outer and Inner Space, Wohl was moved to put her inner dialogue with Bobby on the page in an attempt to reconstruct Edie's life and figure out what made Edie and Andy such iconic figures in American culture. What was it about Andy that enabled him to anticipate so much of contemporary culture? Why did Edie draw attention wherever she went? Who exactly was she, who fascinated Warhol and captured the imagination of a generation?

Wohl tells the story as only a sister could, from their childhood on a California ranch and the beginnings of Edie's lifelong troubles in the world of their parents to her life and relationship with Warhol within the silver walls of the Factory, in the fashionable arenas of New York, and as projected in the various critically acclaimed films he made with her. As Wohl seeks to understand the conjunction of Edie and Andy, she writes with a keen critical eye and careful reflection about their enduring impact. As It Turns Out is a meditation addressed to her brother about their sister, about the girl behind the magnetic image, and about the culture she and Warhol introduced.

In the early 70s a drugged-out seventeen-year-old named Doug, along with his secretly gay, openly black, best friend, decides to hitchhike across the country in search of a mythical Utopia. They meet Bologna Jane & Tina the Monkey Girl, Big Arm and Nigga Dog. They almost die along the way. Doug hooks up with his brother and friends on converted school bus. They harvest huge bags of really weak marijuana, thanks to a couple of Redneck Hippies, and try to sell it. Along the way, Doug winds up getting his ribs and heart broken.
Sick of hitchhiking and hunger, Doug decides it is time to get rich. He gets sucked into the inside world of the famous Glenn W. Turner and his get-rich-quick scheme: Koscot Interplanetary, Incorporated. Doug cuts his hair, buys a suite and tie, and along with a bunch of Disney World rejects, spends his days trying to convince strangers to give him a $5000 so he can make them rich. Then he changes into his real clothes and spends his nights begging strangers to give him a buck so he can eat.
His failure to become a good salesman or panhandler leads him to a group of friendly Satan-worshiping heroin addicts who believe that in the end of time, Jesus will forgive Satan, who will then resume his place as the greatest Angel in all of Heaven.
This is a completely true story. Proof exists in the form of letters, interviews, memorabilia and historical evidence. Besides, nobody could make this up.
