Sinopsis

The book is related to things that are happening in the world. God's promises. Famous people and famous events. It is also related to the consciousness of America and things that have happened in America and things that have been created in America, the country where I was born and raised. I was taught that anything is possible in America.

Giving praises to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am a proud member of the city of Compton. I am also a proud member of my family and the first family member to publish a book.

I hope to inspire people to let them know you can do anything in any situation. And also let people know that you can make mistakes in your life, but if you change the way that you think, you will change the way that you act.

I also aim to let people know that politics will affect your life on some level in some way. So, I hope and pray that my message and that my book will help someone one day. Because it certainly helped me and inspired me. And I am proud to be American, and I am proud to be a Christian.

I didn't write this book so I could get paid. I wrote this book so, hopefully, someone might get saved.

The life and career of a Poet is often thought of as musing at a desk, or lying in a meadow, or on long journeys to find inspiration for their next masterwork. But more often than not a poet was a part-time profession in subservient submission to their actual, salary-paying job.
In this volume we bring together men of the cloth, those people of faith who spent most of their lives in devotional duties in the service of one so they could, in their spare time, serve another.

A New York Times bestselling poetry collection from Clint Smith, author of #1 bestseller and National Book Critics Circle Award winner How the Word Is Passed.  "A joyful embrace and legacy of bright language and poignant questions." —Aimee Nezhukumatathil, author of World of Wonders Clint Smith’s vibrant and compelling new collection traverses the vast emotional terrain of fatherhood, and explores how becoming a parent has recalibrated his sense of the world. There are poems that interrogate the ways our lives are shaped by both personal lineages and historical institutions. There are poems that revel in the wonder of discovering the world anew through the eyes of your children, as they discover it for the first time. There are poems that meditate on what it means to raise a family in a world filled with constant social and political tumult. Above Ground wrestles with how we hold wonder and despair in the same hands, how we carry intimate moments of joy and a collective sense of mourning in the same body. Smith’s lyrical, narrative poems bring the reader on a journey not only through the early years of his children’s lives, but through the changing world in which they are growing up—through the changing world of which we are all a part.Above Ground is a breathtaking collection that follows Smith's first award-winning book of poetry, Counting Descent. Finding Freedom in the Face of Grief: A journey of Family and Self-Discovery. Ayse is incredible and she is not even aware of it.
Ayse Balkos's first book, Come To Tower, is the poetry collection of a fresh voice of a renegade woman, angry, hopeful, strong, confused, clear and vulnerable. The poems are accompanied by Ash Gray’s beautiful tones of Hummingbird Gibson acoustic guitar, dazzlingly honest, unpretentious and real journey of a soul.
A goodbye letter and a fresh new journey. Her voice is elegant, unique and original. This is what a new poetry bursting from raw heart sounds like.
Ayse's untamed words and Ash’s melodies will take you on a journey to a different reality.
She was born with a sense of void and that void taught her how to listen to her feelings. We are grateful for that sense and pain she had to go through to write these verses.

Written after two years of artistic silence, during which the world came to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Minneapolis became the epicenter of protest following the murder of George Floyd, Bluff is Danez Smith's powerful reckoning with their role and responsibility as a poet and with their hometown of the Twin Cities. This is a book of awakening out of violence, guilt, shame, and critical pessimism to wonder and imagine how we can strive toward a new existence in a world that seems to be dissolving into desolate futures.

Smith brings a startling urgency to these poems, their questions demanding a new language and a deep self-scrutiny. A series of ars poetica gives way to "anti poetica" and "ars america" to implicate poetry's collusions with unchecked capitalism. A poem makes clear the consequences of America's acceptance of mass shootings. Another offers the history of Saint Paul's vibrant Rondo neighborhood before and after officials decided to run an interstate directly through it.

Bluff is a kind of manifesto about artistic resilience, even when time and will can seem fleeting, when the places we most love—those given and made—are burning. In this soaring collection, Smith turns to honesty, hope, rage, and imagination to envision futures that seem possible.
