Summary

Being a copper at the yard was definitely an exciting time for the author, John Woodhouse, but it did take it's toll on social and family life. From east end detective, to the Bomb Squad in London's fight back during the IRA bombings of the 1970s, to the Flying Squad in the fight against organised crime. But amongst all this there was a lighter side, from Morris Dancing, to a cross dressingdbutante at Ascot's ladies day, to undercover copis all in a days work, until out of the blue he was told he had terminal cancer and to go home and die. This book is an insight into the life of an ordinary guy who has led an extraordinary life, who has opened deaths door and closed it again, but still had time to smile at life as he endured the battle with cancer. Fighting his way back to return to duty at the yard with one lung and continuing his career, thisis the story of guts and determination. To take on the Chinese triads in their own back yard and and come out the other side is astonishing in itself, but along with all the ups and downs in his life this ordinary guy's approach to life is one of optimism and fun. This book will certainly make you laugh at times and cry at others, you can live his lifealong side him on every page.

'I often get asked about leadership in football, but in "real life" I can think of no greater example of what a leader is than Seán's wife, Martina. I have followed what she has done for her husband and her family and it has humbled me.' Jürgen Klopp, from the foreword.
Life as we know it can change in an instant, in the blink of an eye, and it did for Martina Cox and her family in 2018.
On an ordinary day in April that year, Seán Cox travelled to Anfield to watch his beloved Liverpool FC play. But he never made it to the match. A vicious, unprovoked attack left him with a severe brain injury, unable to walk or talk.
Here, Martina tells their remarkable story. It is a story of inner strength and determination, of dedication and commitment. By not taking no for an answer, and with the help of their family, their community, the Liverpool spirit and tens of thousands of people across the world who were touched by Seán's story, they have achieved what was thought impossible.
With Hope in Your Heart brings Seán's story up to the present day. At its heart, this is a love story – the kind of love that conquers all.

    Killing Rasputin - The Murder...

A look into the life of the so-called “Mad Monk” of Imperial Russia, his murder, and the effects of his death on a dynasty, a people, and a country.

Written in three parts, Killing Rasputin begins with a biography that describes how a simple unkempt “holy man” from the wilds of Siberia became a friend of Emperor Nicholas II and his empress, Alexandra, at the most crucial moment in Russian history. Part Two examines the infamous murder of Rasputin through the lens of a “cold case” homicide investigation. And lastly, the book considers the connection between a cold-blooded assassination and the revolution that followed; a revolution that led to civil war and the rise of the Soviet Union.

Unique about this book on Rasputin, is that the author combines Russian heritage (her parents were forced out of Russia during World War II and arrived as refugees in Australia in 1948) with medical science and legal training. Nelipa relied on Russian-language sources that she translated rather than depend on the interpretations of others. Her primary sources include police documents and witness testimonies, an autopsy report, diaries, letters and memoirs written in their native language by the participants in these historic events. Secondary sources include Russian-languages newspapers and other publications from that era. The narrative is copiously referenced and augmented with photographs (including graphic forensic photographs) and other documents, some of them published here for the first time.

Step into the imperial court of a 300-year-old dynasty in its final days with one of the most fascinating characters ever to grab our imaginations, judge whether Margarita Nelipa makes her case regarding his death, and if you agree that it was “the murder that ended the Russian empire.”

    Praise for Killing Rasputin

“You can almost hear the whispering conspiracies and intrigues in the court of Nicholas and Alexandra. . . . A dramatic history with a touch of true crime.” —Steve Jackson, New York Times–bestselling author of Bogeyman
