The Sundowners, Pegasus, and Little Butch provides a new perspective on the Pacific War by following the exploits of a single Navy unit, Carrier Air Group 11 (CVG-11), beginning in 1943. Author Brian D. Laslie tells the riveting story of how the unit produced several aces, built a storied combat record, and played an important role in the defeat of Japan.

Like other Carrier Air Groups, CVG-11 comprised three aircraft squadrons: fighter (VF-11), bomber (VB-11), and torpedo (VT-11). CVG-11 saw its first action on Guadalcanal in 1943. It was then deployed on the aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CV 12) and fought throughout the Central and Southwest Pacific areas, from 1944 to 1945. The air group's achievements during World War II were laudable, amassing 103 air-to-air victories, destroying 272 grounded planes, and sinking more than 100,000 tons of Japanese shipping. During its time on the Hornet, CVG-11 also produced four aces, with top ace Charlie Stimpson shooting down an impressive sixteen enemy planes. VF-11 took great pride in protecting their shipmates and other squadron members in VB-11 and VT-11 and logged a perfect escort record, losing no bombers or torpedo planes to Japanese aircraft during the entire conflict. Laslie weaves together diaries, interviews, archival research, and official battle reports to present CVG-11's compelling story.

A gripping political history of Kurdish Iraq told through the extraordinary rags-to-riches story of a childhood refugee. Reviewers call it "beautifully written," "riveting," and "innovative."
In the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s, Iraqi president Saddam Hussein used chemical weapons against his own people, the Iraqi Kurds. Five thousand people died in what became known as the Halabja Massacre, one of the worst chemical attacks against civilians in history. Nicole F. Watts, a former journalist and now professor of political science, has spent over a decade researching the struggles of the Kurdish people in Iraq, and in vivid, lyrical prose, she tells their story through the eyes of Peshawa, a young Muslim Kurd whose family barely survived the bombing and then fled for their lives. Republic of Dreams is a riveting portrait of Iraqi Kurdistan as its people weather Hussein’s genocidal campaign against the Kurds and the US invasion of Iraq -- only to face internal struggles between pro-democracy activists and political elites determined to hang onto power.
Throughout the book, the thread of Peshawa’s story immerses readers in the everyday and extraordinary world of Iraqi Kurds between the late 1980s and 2022, exploring the meaning of home and dislocation in the wake of war and genocide. Based on over a hundred in-depth interviews with Iraqi Kurdish activists, journalists, elected officials, and community organizers, and hundreds of hours of conversations with Peshawa and his family, Republic of Dreams brings to vivid life the story of modern Kurdistan, and the Kurdish national dream to have their own homeland.

In many US cities, gun violence is the most urgent crime problem. High rates of deadly violence make a city less livable, dragging down quality of life, economic development, and property values.

How can police departments find the right balance between over- and under-policing of high-violence areas? What are the best practices for police to preempt and deter gun violence, while engendering support and cooperation from the public?

Drawing on fifty years of research and practical experience, Policing Gun Violence argues that it is possible for the police to create greater public safety while respecting the rights of individuals and communities. While gun violence can be attributed to various systemic causes, Anthony A. Braga and Philip J. Cook make the case that violence is itself a root cause of social disparity and future violence. Effective law enforcement is a vital component of a just society. They review and synthesize the evidence in several key areas: enforcement of gun laws, policing hot spots, controlling high-risk groups through focused deterrence, enhancing investigations to increase the arrest and conviction rate, preventing officer-involved shootings, and disrupting underground gun markets. Policing Gun Violence serves as a guide to how the police can better utilize their considerable resources to make cities safer.

Chained to the Desk: Workaholism and the Psychology of Behavioral Addiction
In an age that glorifies hustle culture and celebrates busyness as a badge of honor, Chained to the Desk dares to ask a difficult question: When does dedication to work cross the line into addiction?
This groundbreaking book delves deep into the often-overlooked world of workaholism, a form of behavioral addiction that can be just as destructive as substance abuse yet often goes unnoticed, even rewarded. Beginning with a clear-eyed overview of what addiction truly is, the author builds a compelling case for understanding workaholism not simply as ambition or drive but as a psychological compulsion rooted in deeper emotional and personality patterns.
Through an engaging, accessible, and research-informed journey, readers will uncover:
    •	The evolving landscape of modern addictions, including digital, performance-based, and socially reinforced behaviors
    •	Why work is a necessary but potentially dangerous force in our lives
    •	The behavioral signs and symptoms of workaholism—what to look for in yourself or others
    •	How certain personality types are more vulnerable to this hidden addiction
    •	The emotional, physical, and relational toll that chronic overwork can exact
With clarity and compassion, the author explains the psychology behind work addiction and offers insight into how to break free from its grip without abandoning your goals or success.
