Sinopse

When fifteen year old Joel Penberthy sees a white hare being pursued by a black dog, he knows exactly what it means. Every Cornishman knows that the white hare, pursued by a black dog, portends disaster. For Joel it means a catastrophe threatens the eighteenth century mine where he works. But he can never imagine how this will turn his own life upside down, threatening his very existence in his own time. Nor does he guess how it will find him new, amazing friends in today's world, and a future that he could never have dreamt of.John Kitchen was born and grew up in Cornwall. He returns to these roots in Mine-Shift, which is his fourth book to explore less familiar aspects of the supernatural. His first novel, Nicola’s Ghost, won the Writer’ Digest Award for best Young Adult Novel in 2011. Mine-Shift is his second ‘time-shift’ novel to be set in Cornwall. John writes his stories in a bright yellow studio in his four-hundred-year-old cottage in Oxfordshire. His wife died in 1995, but he has a daughter and a son, and four amazing grandchildren.

In this, the last of the Three Musketeers novels, Dumas builds on the true story of a mysterious prisoner held incognito in the French penal system, forced to wear a mask when seen by any but his jailer or his valet. If you have skipped the novels between The Three Musketeers and this, a few notes will bring you into the story:On one side – Aramis, now a bishop and secretly the Captain-General of the Jesuit Order, who believes he has found a path to a higher honor – the papacy. Monsieur Fouquet, the vastly rich minister of finance, Aramis’ ally. Philippe, the identical twin of King Louis XIV, who grew up in ignorance of his pedigree, and whose surrogate parents were murdered on the king’s order and himself sent into the notorious Paris prison, the Bastille, there held in solitary confinement. On the other side – King Louis XIV, selected as the twin who would be king by his mother, and who intends that his brother will never challenge him. Monsieur Colbert, first minister, who is jealous of Fouquet and plots his downfall.Unaligned and in danger of collateral damage – d’Artagnan, now captain of the King’s Musketeers and so the king’s chief defender, who suspects plots running beneath the surface and who is trying to unearth them. Athos, now the Comte (Count) de la Fer and one of the most respected noblemen of France. Raoul, Athos’ son and vicomte (viscount), desperately in love with Mademoiselle de la Valliere, who the king has taken as his mistress. Porthos, grown extremely stout and happy as the Baron du Vallon.Aramis discovers the hidden Philippe and hatches a plot to substitute him for the sitting king, putting Louis in Philippe’s cell in the Bastille. This even succeeds… for a short while. But Aramis has not reckoned with a man whose loyalty to the throne exceeds his own welfare and who disastrously reverses the plot. Now it is time for the plotters to scurry to cover, there to figure some way to recover their lost ambitions. (Summary written by Mark Smith.)

On a hushed shore beneath a moonlit sky, where the tides steal away memories etched in sand, a kiss changes everything.
Silom is nineteen, a fisherman’s apprentice with calloused hands, a battered wetsuit, and questions he’s never dared voice aloud. Lester is older, from a colder world—an Englishman adrift in a life that no longer fits. When their paths cross on the island of Ko Lanta, a brief, impulsive kiss stirs something neither of them is ready to name.
What begins as a fleeting connection becomes something deeper—tender, quiet, and inescapably real—in a place where duty weighs heavy and words come second to glances, gestures, and shared silences. But paradise cannot shield lovers from the weight of the world. As the tides shift and lives drift apart, Silom is left with only memory—and the ache of a promise unkept.
Spanning decades of longing, distance, and quiet resilience, Lanta is a lyrical, bittersweet love story set against the lush, salt-soaked beauty of southern Thailand. It is about the boy who kissed a stranger, the man who never forgot, and the lives that unfold between one impossible moment and its long-awaited echo.
For readers of André Aciman (Call Me by Your Name), Madeline Miller (The Song of Achilles), and anyone who has ever carried a memory like a flame in their chest.

When a Texas gal punches a prince instead of curtsying, you know this isn't your grandmother's fairy tale.

Taking the bull by the horns is child's play compared to ruling Malveaux. Yet here I am, a Texas girl turned princess, swapping tacos for a tiara.

Then I meet Europe's most eligible bachelor, the irritatingly handsome Prince Alexander, and accidentally deck him instead of curtsying. Oops. I'd feel bad if he wasn't such a self-satisfied jerk.

Now, I'm racing against a royal clock that ticks with the urgency of a preening peacock, trying not to let down my newfound country or my own wild heart. Alexander? He's a walking contradiction, with a smirk that heats my blood and eyes that tell tales of a depth I didn't expect.

Decisions aren't exactly my rodeo, but this time, my choice could cost me my new crown—or lead to a love story that rewrites my happily ever after.

Will this Texas girl rise to the royal challenge, or is this one fairy tale destined to end with the slipper never found?

    Contains mature themes.

When the pace of railroad construction slackened in 1914, Canada had achieved a remarkable position in the railway world. Only five other countries—the United States, Russia, Germany, India, and, by a small margin, France—possessed a greater mileage; and, relatively to population, none came anywhere near her. This is the story of how Canada became a country stitched together by rail. - Summary by TriciaG
