Sinopse

When fifteen year old Joel Penberthy sees a white hare being pursued by a black dog, he knows exactly what it means. Every Cornishman knows that the white hare, pursued by a black dog, portends disaster. For Joel it means a catastrophe threatens the eighteenth century mine where he works. But he can never imagine how this will turn his own life upside down, threatening his very existence in his own time. Nor does he guess how it will find him new, amazing friends in today's world, and a future that he could never have dreamt of.John Kitchen was born and grew up in Cornwall. He returns to these roots in Mine-Shift, which is his fourth book to explore less familiar aspects of the supernatural. His first novel, Nicola’s Ghost, won the Writer’ Digest Award for best Young Adult Novel in 2011. Mine-Shift is his second ‘time-shift’ novel to be set in Cornwall. John writes his stories in a bright yellow studio in his four-hundred-year-old cottage in Oxfordshire. His wife died in 1995, but he has a daughter and a son, and four amazing grandchildren.

The latest twist-filled novel in award-winning New York Times bestselling author Mary Monroe’s Depression-era Alabama saga tells the riveting tale of identical twin sisters with a talent for switching lives and hiding the scandalous results—until one risk too many changes the game forever …

Since childhood, identical twins Leona and Fiona Dunbar have been getting in—and out—of trouble by pretending to be each other. Yet underneath, they couldn’t be more different. Outspoken Leona lives to break rules, have a good time, and scandalize their respectable hometown of Lexington. Fiona is a seemingly demure churchgoing girl who is the apple of her domineering, widowed mother Mavis’s eye.

But together, the twins have fooled teachers, boyfriends, bosses, racist police—and most importantly, straitlaced Mavis. Even when Leona does jail time for Fiona, their unbreakable bond keeps them fiercely loyal. … So when Fiona feels stifled in her passionless marriage, and Leona is heartbroken over losing her one true love, it’s perfect timing to change places once again …

Leona is shocked to discover she enjoys the security of being a wife and homebody. And the unexpected spark between her and Fiona’s husband is giving her all kinds of deliciously sexy ideas. Meanwhile, Fiona enjoys being free, single, and reveling in the independence she’s never had. And the more she indulges her secret, long-repressed wild child, the more Leona’s ex-lover becomes one temptation she’s having trouble resisting …

As the sisters’ masquerade ignites desires and appetites they never expected, it also puts their most damning secrets on the line. Once the fallout rocks their small town, can Fiona and Leona’s deep sisterhood shield them from total disaster and help them reconcile their mistakes? Or will the trust between them become a weapon that shatters their lives for good?

    Zoya:
    Ever saw a dead body?
    I’ll ask again.
Ever saw a dead body walking among us?
I’ve been dead on the inside since my parents were taken away from me, and I was forced to move out the only home I knew.
Never truly ever knowing love or what it felt like. Always witnessing everyone else have what you wished your heart could do.
    Love.
That word love could walk up on me, snatch me up, and I wouldn’t have ever known. Me and that word didn’t exist, and I had come to terms with that when I watched them fighting to save my boyfriend’s life, after my brother nearly took it from him.
Again, love was never meant for me… Zoya Caselli.
Even the big dawg eventually got tired too…

    Goon:
    There was always love around.
My mother was a single mother to two boys, but there was always enough love to go around. Never being able to leave the house without giving her a kiss on the cheek or saying I love you. Even now, if I hadn’t spoken to her in a few days, she would call to remind me that she loved me.
Physical touch was my love language.
    I needed it.
    Had to have that shit.
I was Ms. Lawyer’s opposite in every way.
The way she avoided my touch ’cause she knew she would fall off the bones. She was scared to tap into that side of her heart. Shit was rusty because she avoided it at all costs. It was too dangerous for her to feel the love she knew she secretly desired.
Little did she know, I was coming for that heart, love, marriage, and those chocolate babies.
Zoya Caselli was gonna open her heart to me and become Zoya Wraithe.
    Word to Sharon.
