  Sir Walter Raleigh (c. 1552 – 29 October 1618) was an English aristocrat, writer, poet, soldier, courtier, spy, and explorer. He is also well known for popularising tobacco in England.Raleigh's poetry is written in the relatively straightforward, unornamented mode known as the plain style. C. S. Lewis considered Raleigh one of the era's "silver poets", a group of writers who resisted the Italian Renaissance influence of dense classical reference and elaborate poetic devices.In poems such as "What is Our Life" and "The Lie", Raleigh expresses a contemptus mundi (contempt of the world) attitude more characteristic of the Middle Ages than of the dawning era of humanistic optimism. But, his lesser-known long poem "The Ocean to Cynthia" combines this vein with the more elaborate conceits associated with his contemporaries Edmund Spenser and John Donne, expressing a melancholy sense of history.A minor poem of Raleigh's captures the atmosphere of the court at the time of Queen Elizabeth I. His response to Christopher Marlowe's "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love" was "The Nymph's Reply to the Shepherd". "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love" was written in 1592, while Raleigh's "The Nymph's Reply to The Shepherd" was written four years later. Both were written in the style of traditional pastoral poetry. They follow the same structure of six four-line stanzas employing a rhyme scheme of AABB.   One Night - A Play Of Remembrance

  "One NIght" Is an original one act play written by Christopher Swann that lasts just over 75 minutes. 
  On one night in November 1920 two Officers were tasked with choosing the "Unknown Warrior" who was to be laid to rest in Westminster Abbey. They entered a small chapel in Northern France where six coffins of the unidentified military dead rested, having been brought from the battlefields of Belgium and France. The Officers entered at dusk to choose one from those six coffins and left the chapel at dawn. No one knows what happened that night and what kept the two Officers - a General and a Colonel who  had both served in and survived World War One  - in the chapel and why they stayed the whole night. This play is an imagining of that One Night and the dilemma that faced them in making the choice. As they consider which coffin to pick and mull over the randomness that has brought these six unknown soldiers to the chapel, the voices of men of other ranks and a bereaved Mother are heard - all are ghosts who died in the Great war.   The play has received professional performances in the UK. This audio book is a Radio version of "One Night" which is a play in one act.It was recorded in an audio studio in Birmingham with a professional cast and directed and written by the award winning Director Christopher Swann.
