Summary

The Kenya Alliance of Residents Associations (KARA) is the apex body representing the residents' associations in Kenya. KARA has members across the country and works through its members on policy advocacy and to inform, educate and promote awareness among the public on public service delivery issues.

Impact assessment/evaluation is done after a policy change to determine its impact or lack thereof. The report shows how the Business Advocacy Fund made a point of attempting to assess the impact made by KARA. KARA in collaboration with The Nairobi City County (NCC) Government and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) developed a Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) Policy for Nairobi City County (NCC) in 2015. The objective of the NCC NMT policy is to provide a framework for harmonization, prioritization and coordination of NMT infrastructure and facility development and maintenance in Nairobi.

In You Say You Want a Revolution?, Daniel Chirot examines a wide range of right- and left-wing revolutions around the world—from the late eighteenth century to today—to provide important new answers to these critical questions.
From the French Revolution of the eighteenth century to the Mexican, Russian, German, Chinese, anticolonial, and Iranian revolutions of the twentieth, Chirot finds that moderate solutions to serious social, economic, and political problems were overwhelmed by radical ideologies that promised simpler, drastic remedies. But not all revolutions had this outcome. The American Revolution didn't, although its failure to resolve the problem of slavery eventually led to the Civil War, and the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe was relatively peaceful, except in Yugoslavia. From Japan, North Korea, Vietnam, and Cambodia to Algeria, Angola, Haiti, and Romania, You Say You Want a Revolution? explains why violent radicalism, corruption, and the betrayal of ideals won in so many crucial cases, why it didn't in some others—and what the long-term prospects for major social change are if liberals can't deliver needed reforms.

Four political analysts explore the importance of local issues to global business and politics in this fully updated edition of The Kimchi Matters.

Today’s focus on globalization has obscured the fact that political stability and economic growth are determined at the local level. Investors and foreign policymakers set themselves up for failure when they don’t consider the unique local dynamics of a particular country or region. This is equally true for companies venturing abroad and for politicians facing geopolitical challenges.

In their 2003 book The Kimchi Matters, the authors demonstrated how globalization made it more important than ever to understand the political economies of distant countries. Now they have returned to that acclaimed work with updated accounts of situations around the world—including in Russia, India, China, Argentina, and Brazil—and refine the principles they laid out in the first edition.
