Sinopsis

In "Adventures of Big-Foot Wallace: The Texas Ranger and Hunter (Illustrated)", John Crittenden Duval combines vivid storytelling with elements of frontier folklore to explore the life and exploits of the legendary Texas Ranger, Samuel "Big-Foot" Wallace. Set against the backdrop of the tumultuous Texas frontier during the mid-19th century, the work captures the spirit of adventure and the complexities of frontier life through richly detailed prose and engaging illustrations. Duval employs a first-person narrative style that emphasizes the authentic experiences of his characters, weaving together themes of bravery, exploration, and naturalism under the expansive skies of Texas. Duval himself was deeply embedded in Texas's early culture, serving as a soldier and a journalist during a transformative period in American history. His personal experiences and encounters with notable figures of the time provided him with a wealth of material that fueled his storytelling. Having witnessed and participated in the very events he recounts, Duval's authority on the subject lends a compelling authenticity to the pages of this book, illuminating the trials faced by pioneers and lawmen alike. Recommended for readers interested in American frontier history or folklore, this illustrated adventure serves as both an entertaining and enlightening journey into the mythos of Texas Rangers. Duval's rich narrative style and attention to local detail not only celebrate an iconic figure but also evoke a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era of exploration and adventure, making it a must-read for both history buffs and lovers of adventure tales.

    Ottoman Empire’s Most Important...

In terms of geopolitics, perhaps the most seminal event of the Middle Ages was the successful Ottoman siege of Constantinople in 1453. The city had been an imperial capital as far back as the 4th century, when Constantine the Great shifted the power center of the Roman Empire there, effectively establishing two almost equally powerful halves of antiquity’s greatest empire. Constantinople would continue to serve as the capital of the Byzantine Empire even after the Western half of the Roman Empire collapsed in the late 5th century. Naturally, the Ottoman Empire would also use Constantinople as the capital of its empire after their conquest effectively ended the Byzantine Empire, and thanks to its strategic location, it has been a trading center for years and remains one today under the Turkish name of Istanbul.
The end of the Byzantine Empire had a profound effect not only on the Middle East but Europe as well. Constantinople had played a crucial part in the Crusades, and the fall of the Byzantines meant that the Ottomans now shared a border with Europe. Indeed, the Ottomans would clash with Russians, Austrians, Venetians, Polish, and more before collapsing as a result of World War I, when they were part of the Central powers.
In the wake of taking Constantinople, the Ottoman Empire would spend the next few centuries expanding its size, power, and influence, bumping up against Eastern Europe and becoming one of the world’s most important geopolitical players. It was a rise that would not truly start to wane until the 19th century. Preserving its mixed heritage, coming from both its geographic position rising above the ashes of the Byzantine Empire and the tradition inherited from the Muslim Conquests, the Ottoman Empire lasted more than six centuries.

Marcus Garvey (1887-1940) was a Black political activist, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator who founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League, which had a following of more than six million African descended people worldwide. Despite his massive popularity, this Jamaican born international leader was wrongfully sentenced to prison by the U.S. government on trumped-up mail-fraud charges.

While exoneration efforts began immediately and have continued since his sentencing, a new groundswell movement for Garvey's posthumous pardon is underway—led by his nonagenarian, still-spirited son, Julius Garvey.

Edited by Julius Garvey, Justice for Marcus Garvey is a collection of informative essays and personal narratives about the senior Garvey's life and work, demonstrating his essential influence on current social justice movements. The book features contributions from thought leaders and activists, including a foreword by bestselling author Ta-Nehisi Coates. Contributors include Paul Coates, founder/director of Black Classic Press; Goulda Downer, president of the Caribbean-American Political Action Committee; Justin Hansford, professor at Howard University School of Law; and Maulana Karenga, widely known as the creator of the holiday Kwanzaa.

Dome of the Rock and the Church...

The most famous church in Jerusalem for nearly 2,000 years, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, often called the Church of the Resurrection, was built in the era of St. Constantine, and the church as a structure has no history separable from the city of Jerusalem and its environs. It is venerated as being on the site where Jesus was crucified and buried, and naturally, making it a crucial pilgrimage site for Christians, and it is now the home of the Greek Orthodox Jerusalem Patriarchate. Moreover, it was the site of many important councils, some of which altered Christian history forever. In short, the Sepulchre was and is synonymous with Jerusalem, and it was essentially the nodal center of the city.
Naturally, the Church has had a turbulent history just as Jerusalem has. The evidence that Christ's tomb was at that location was backed by the apostolic tradition and basic common sense. The local population had venerated this site since apostolic times, but so much had been destroyed in the ensuing centuries that records which might have been consulted were likely long lost already.
Among the world’s most recognizable man-made structures, the Dome of the Rock – known in Arabic as the Qubbat as-Sakara – is also one of its most mysterious. Although much of the Dome’s construction, reconstruction, and later additions are well-known from historical texts and archeological work, what it represents, why it was built where it was, and even its use remain the subject of scholarly controversy. Known for its immense size and beauty, and also for being located in the middle of Jerusalem, one of the world’s holiest cities, the Dome of the Rock has been the focus of political leaders who wished to legitimize their rule, religious warriors who believed that it empowered their weapons, and pilgrims who thought it was a site of salvation and enlightenment.

Kashmir is the Indian subcontinent's northern most geographical area. It is quite different from the rest of India. And till the mid-nineteenth century, "Kashmir" only described the Kashmir Valley, which lies between the Great Mountain Ranges and the Pir Panjal Variety. Today, the word describes the Indian-controlled parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and also the Pakistani-controlled terrain of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Chinese-controlled areas of Aksai Chin and the Trans-Karakoram System.
The Kashmir area ended up being a crucial center of Hinduism and later Buddhism in the first centuries, while Kashmir Shaivism developed later, in the ninth century. This is why so many people attribute significant spiritual meaning to the area. It is no wonder, therefore, that some travelers go to this specific area for spiritual purposes.
In this book, we will explore the history of Kashmir, its significance, and the current circumstances.
