Summary

Forcing a rich man to make amends to the people he’s swindled draws British sleuth Patrick Dawlish into a case that leads from money to murder . . .   A financial scam isn’t Patrick Dawlish’s usual subject of investigation, but he finds himself playing Robin Hood at his wife’s urging when they—and many others—lose money investing in a company that has since gone broke. But it doesn’t take long for Dawlish to find himself on familiar ground, when he saves the company’s managing director, Mr. Galloway, from being poisoned to death.   Not wanting police involvement, the multi-millionaire convinces Dawlish that the attempted murder is a personal matter. A close friend has become an enemy. Galloway has few redeeming qualities, and Dawlish is content to sit back and see how events play out—until his wife is abducted and threatened. It’s the first shot in a war of nerves with the shady businessman that Dawlish has no intention of losing . . .

The secretest secret of all is about to be made unsecret …
Renowned Harvard Professor Richard Wangley is enjoying a relaxing visit to Prague, city of magic, alchemy and labyrinthine underground tunnels. But when his girlfriend disappears hours before she was due to publish an earth-shaking manifesto and the latest of a series of hideous murders points towards him, Wangley must go on the run to prove his innocence and prevent a catastrophic threat to the entire world.
Far from home and armed with nothing but his wits, his knowledge of ancient symbolism and a cream turtleneck that does nothing to hide his middle-aged spread, Wangley must navigate a city where every cobblestone could be a clue or a potential trip hazard.
As he races against time and a grotesque spectre closes in, Wangley finds himself in a labyrinth unlike any he has previously navigated. Except for that time in Paris. And Rome and Florence.
In this humorous and thrilling adventure, Wangley's knowledge of ancient symbolism becomes his only weapon as he navigates the labyrinthine city of Prague. This story will keep you on the edge of your seat as he races against time to prove his innocence.

The "master of . . . cerebral puzzle mysteries" sends his Yorkshire detectives back to college to be taught a lesson in murder (The New York Times).

Reginald Hill "raised the classical British mystery to new heights" when he introduced pugnacious Yorkshire Det. Inspector Andrew Dalziel and his partner, the callow Sgt. Peter Pascoe (The New York Times Book Review). Their chafing differences in education, manners, technique, and temperament made them "the most remarkable duo in the annals of crime fiction" (Toronto Star). The Gold Dagger Award–winning series was adapted into a long-running hit show for the BBC.

If Alison Girling, former principal of England's Holm Coultram College, died in an avalanche in Austria, why has her skeleton been unearthed on campus? While no love is lost between conservative detective Andrew Dalziel and the entirety of Liberal Arts, his attention to the grim discovery must be paid. But when he and Peter Pascoe scour the ivory tower for answers, they discover that the shady faculty and creepy student body have more to bury than just one corpse. Try two—and counting. As Pascoe is sidelined by an old college flame, Dalziel's suspicions of academia are becoming dire. Because the deeper he digs for secrets, the dirtier they get in this "steadily, edgily amusing . . . dark comedy" (Kirkus Reviews).
