Sinopse

A scandalous romance takes a violent turn in this classic British mystery featuring detective Patrick Dawlish from the Edgar Award–winning author.

With his wife, Felicity, on a shopping spree in Paris, intelligence officer Patrick Dawlish finds himself at loose ends. His only attempt at sleuthing is prompted by a note from Felicity herself asking him to confirm a rumor about her father’s old friend. There’s a story spreading that millionaire bachelor Pop Fairweather is considering marrying the much younger actress Georgette Lee, an opportunistic woman with a string of romances behind her.

Just as Dawlish begins sniffing around, Georgette is found unconscious after her flat is burglarized. Nearly everyone believes the crime was staged by Georgette to get the protective Fairweather to finally pop the question. When the ruse has the opposite effect, causing Fairweather to break off the relationship, Dawlish is happy to report the news to Felicity. But when the old bachelor is discovered nearly beaten to death, Georgette is arrested. After all, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned—or does it? Leave it to Dawlish to find out . . .

Is Karina's missing aunt on vacation . . . or on the lam?

Karina is trying to keep her mind on getting a cosponsor for a bill, but it's tough with her mom blowing up her phone. By the time Karina finally stops hitting "ignore", Mom is frantic. It appears Karina's Aunt Vera has disappeared, fibbed to her employer about the reason for her absence, even abandoned her beloved cat, Nightshade—which is completely out of character. Karina would bet her favorite pair of designer shoes that Vera is in some kind of trouble.

However, when Karina hauls her cookies from DC to historic Williamsburg to search Vera's house, she finds nothing suspicious. Except for a mischievous Civil War ghost who scares the bejesus out of her and keeps trashing Vera's office. Until Karina realizes his seemingly random ectoplasmic tantrums have a purpose—revealing key evidence.

Something is definitely fishy, but the clues aren't adding up. And as the spirit's visitations become more urgent, Karina calls on reinforcements for help—her latest squeeze Rick Donovan and her sister Jillian. Because the cops are following faulty leads, which could put Vera on the wrong end of an arrest warrant . . . if she's found alive.

In this quick-hitting thriller set in Baltimore, during the waning years of the Cold War, Lussi Sim, a Norwegian physician, is the medical director of a newborn intensive care unit.

Lussi had practiced pediatrics near her parents in Oslo until her father suffered a stroke. Growing up, Lussi experienced chronic mental trauma in the self-assigned role of her mother’s bodyguard. Ironically, her father’s stroke removed the physical threat to her mother and enabled Lussi to pursue her long-suppressed goal to train as a newborn intensive care subspecialist in the United States.
An excellent physician, Lussi copes with the stress of treating sick infants by entering the “rescuer” role she adopted to protect her mother. However, her fight v. flight response to threat defaults to the fight mode and she frequently fails to control her anger when negotiating with hospital managers she believes value profit over optimal patient care.
Stumbling upon a deadly medical conspiracy, evolving from a US government-approved financial agreement between the CIA and the Saudi Royal family, Lussi must now use her well-honed fighting instincts to overcome lethal obstacles, rescue victims, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
