In his Epistle, the Apostle Peter instructed us to give others good reason for the hope we have in Christ, but to do so with "gentleness and respect." Unfortunately, in the eyes of many non-Christians today, the church has done just the opposite. In Unchristian, David Kinnaman, president of the Barna Group, has complied startling research among the unchurched and learned that Christians are too often known for the issues they stand against, rather than the hope which they stand for. According to the research, believers are seen as too judgmental, too political, and often hypocritical. If you are a Pastor, lay person or youth leader you will not want to go without the details of this critical study. Uncover for yourself the latest research on the unchurched in Kinnaman's must-read book.

The Third and Last Book of Magick, or Occult Philosophy - Henry Cornelius Agrippa. Now it is time to turn our pen to higher matters, and to that part of magick which teacheth us to know and perfectly understand the rules of religion, and how we ought to obtain the truth by divine religion, and how rightly to prepare our mind and spirit. By which only we can comprehend the truth. For it is a common opinion of the magicians that unless the mind and spirit be in good case, the body cannot be in good health.
But then a man can be truly sound when body and soul are so coupled, and agree together, that the firmness of the mind and spirit are not inferior to the powers of the bod, but a firm and stout mind (saith Hermes) that we not otherwise obtain than by integrity of life, by piety, and last of all, by divine religion. For holy religion purgeth the mind, and maketh it divine, it helpeth nature, and strengtheneth natural powers, as a phycisian helpeth the health of the body, and a husbandman the strength of the earth. Whosoever therefore, religion being laid aside, do consider only in natural things, is wont very oft to be deceived by evill spirits. But from the knowledge of religion, the contempt and cure of vices ariseth, and a safeguard against evil spirits.
To conclude, nothing is more pleasant and acceptable to God than a man perfectly pious, and truly religious, who so far excelleth other men, as he himself is distant from the immortal gods.

What's in a name? Plenty, it turns out. Each name for God in Scripture reveals a wonderful aspect of His nature that can meet your deepest needs, comfort you in times of personal tragedy, and release you to new heights of praise in times of joy.

God is so vast that the heavens cannot contain Him. Likewise, His personality is so complex that one name cannot adequately describe Him. Throughout the Bible, God revealed Himself to His people through His various names. In 30 Meditations on the Names of God, Marilyn Hickey and Sarah Bowling share their heartfelt thoughts about the importance of meditating on God's Word and how meditating on the names of God can help us with every need.

When we are fearful, we can pray to Him as Jehovah Shalom, "the Lord my Peace."

When we are uncertain of His will, we can seek Him as Jehovah Rohi, "the Lord my Shepherd."

As Jehovah Jireh, "the Lord our Provider," God is letting us know that He sees ahead of our need and makes provision for it.

God is our health and well-being as Jehovah Rophe, "the Lord our Healer."

No matter what you're going through or how you feel, knowing God's names can give you comfort and confidence to invite Him into your life.

    Finding Freedom in Constraint -...

The constraints of the spiritual life, practiced in community, are what set us free. Practicing spiritual disciplines can seem difficult, especially when we undertake them as isolated individuals. But we were never meant to practice them alone.

Jared Patrick Boyd reveals how the constraints practiced in Christian community shape us into the way of Christ. He re-anchors the practices of constraint within the ascetic tradition of monasticism, religious orders, and the early church fathers. Boyd writes, "The constraints of a rule of life are what make life together, lived for one another, possible. A rule of life is not meant to be primarily personal, but communal. It's not primarily meant to guide my life. It is meant to describe our way of life together." Constraint is the practice of learning to pay deeper attention to the things in our inner world that prevent us from progressing in the school of love.

Discover a deep conversation on freedom and constraint with six core practices of constraint that can form in us a greater freedom to be and become people who love as God loves. Enter into this vision with your local community (in small groups, church leadership teams, or families), and learn to make greater room to experience the love of God.
