Summary

This edition includes the following editor's introduction: The traumatic life of J. M. Barrie, source of universal creativity

Originally published in 1918, “Echoes of the War” is a wonderful collection of four short stories involving families affected by First World War by Scottish novelist J. M. Barrie, most famous for writing the children’s story Peter Pan.

In “Echoes of the War,” each of the stories deals with civilian life in London during the war with a touch of drama but also moments of humour. The stories are condensed, but also very well constructed.
Available since: 06/20/2022.

Book 11: Lovely Lethal GardensRiches to rags. ... Chaos again. ... Winning is important, ... at least for some!Doreen is overwhelmed with joy when she sees all the volunteers who show up to help get her deck addition built. Most of the men are cops, friends of Corporal Mack Moreau’s, and are happy to help Mack’s special friend and the lady who has helped solve so many crimes for them with a spot of home renovation. But before the deck improvement can be finished, duty calls, and the cops are called away on a case. Another gray-haired lady has dropped dead. Yet another heart attack victim is added to the long line of previous ones. And, of course, neither of these recently deceased women had a heart condition that would explain their sudden demise. With her animals at her side, Doreen is determined to figure out what the ladies had in common, plus why and how kiwis keep popping up in this case. As she digs into the ladies’ lives, the things Doreen discover are shocking, … but not as shocking as the answer is to this riddle …

Congratulations! You’ve found yet another self-help book that you’ll skim through, feel briefly inspired by, and then completely ignore while continuing to make the same bad decisions.
    🚨 THIS IS NOT A REAL SELF-HELP BOOK. 🚨
This is a book for people who have:
✔️ Bought planners they never use.
✔️ Watched productivity videos while actively avoiding work.
✔️ Googled “how to get my life together” at 2 AM while eating cold pizza.
    Inside, you’ll find:
✅ A step-by-step guide to pretending you’re working on yourself.
✅ The absolute dumbest life advice you will never follow.
✅ A checklist for success (that will collect dust on your desk).
This book will NOT help you:
🚫 Get your finances in order.
    🚫 Find motivation.
🚫 Stop dating red flags wrapped in human skin.
But it WILL help you laugh at your own failures, which is basically therapy (but cheaper).
If you’re tired of reading books that try to fix you, this book is here to roast you instead.
📢 Go ahead, buy it. (But let’s be real, you’ll probably never finish it.) 🙃

When Irene Ostendorf fires her rifle, the shot sends an out-of-town cyclist tumbling and her new pastor, J.W. "Dent" Denton, into the thorniest dilemma of his already complicated ministerial career. How can he earn the goodwill of the townsfolk, support the eccentric old shooter, and offer help to the injured young man, all at the same time? The more Dent tries to do the right thing, the further he stumbles into a minefield of small-town secrets that everyone—especially the president of the local Last Man Club—seems hell-bent on preserving.
While Dent digs deeper into the town's past and his own failed marriage, Ashley, a young college student with a curious tattoo, wrestles with a secret that threatens to expose her and tear her loved ones apart. But when a teenaged waitress named Maya disappears into a winter storm, Dent and Ashley find themselves on a collision course with their pasts—one that will end in an inescapable choice.
Keep their secrets, or save Maya.

Rule #1 - Only be where flip-flops can be worn.
Former deputy Sam Strait lives his life by a particular set of rules. They provide him freedom to do the things he wants where he wants with whom he wants. For a single man in his mid-thirties, things couldn’t get any better. Then why isn’t he happier?
When Sam returns home for the summer, he discovers a stranger dead in his boat. With cops and reporters crawling over his property, gone are the usual plans of soaking up the sun and whiling away the days in the arms of a beautiful woman. Instead, Sam embarks on journey to solve the mysterious death.
Soon, he’s being followed, harassed, and assaulted by figures demanding the return of something he had no idea he possessed. Sam would have been better to stay away for the summer, but he couldn’t have. He had to return home. The rules demanded it.
Strait Over Tackle is the first book in an exciting new series from the author of the 509 Crime Stories and the co-author of the Charlie-316 series.
If you like your crime fiction with a dose of humor, then pick up this book today!
(NOTE: The Flip-Flop Detective occurs in the same world as the 509 Crime Stories. The first book in that series is The Side Hustle.)
