Sinopse

'This house. It's called "Sea View". It's just I've looked out of every window, and you can't. You can't see the sea.'
Blackpool, 1976. The driest summer in two hundred years. The beaches are packed. The hotels are heaving. In the sweltering backstreets, far from the choc ices and donkey rides, the Webb Sisters are returning to their mother's run-down guest house, as she lies dying upstairs.
When memories from their youth come flooding back, the sisters must confront their past and untangle a web of secrets, betrayals and profound emotional bonds.
Jez Butterworth's play The Hills of California was first performed at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London's West End in 2024, directed by Sam Mendes, and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Neal Street. This edition features the revised and definitive version of the play performed during its acclaimed Broadway transfer later that year.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. Are you sure you know what loss truly means? What about guilt that gnaws at you from the inside, day after day, year after year? Kyle Rain knows. He saw the world shatter, witnessed the abyss of the Rift consume everything he held dear. His family vanished, leaving only an echo in his tormented soul.

But the Echo is not just the past. It's a key. A key to saving what's left of the world. A key hidden in the heart of the most dangerous Rift – "Echo-7."

Embark with Kyle and his desperate team on a journey beyond the veil of reality. Into the Wasteland, where every step is a fight for survival, where the air trembles with anomalies, and shadows whisper your deepest fears. Come face to face with an entity that feeds on pain and loneliness, one that knows you better than you know yourself.

"Echo of the Rift" is not just another post-apocalyptic story. It's a deep dive into the human psyche, an exploration of the limits of the mind and the desperate struggle for redemption. It's a book that will make you question reality, your own memories, the very definition of humanity.

Forget everything you've read about the post-apocalypse. There are no tired clichés here. There is only scorched earth, roaring Rifts, the shadows of the past, and a desperate hope for the future that may prove to be nothing but a cruel illusion.

"The Last Great Epic Poem in the English Language"- Dale Ahlquist"The ending is absurd. The brilliant smash and glitter of the words and phrases (when they come off, and are not mere loud colours) cannot disguise the fact that G. K. C. knew nothing whatever about the 'North', heathen or Christian."- JRR TolkienThe tale of King Alfred, the Christian king who in 878AD battled a Viking invasion that had conquered the rest of England and burnt some cakes. He then became the last holdout of resistance against the invaders and forced the conversion of the Danish king Guthrum to Christianity after the battle of Ethandun. Chesterton says "This ballad needs no historical notes, for the simple reason that it does not profess to be historical. All of it that is not frankly fictitious, as in any prose romance about the past, is meant to emphasize tradition rather than history. That is the use of tradition: it telescopes history."Named after the chalk horses carved into English hills (and partly set at Uffington), it begins with an exhortation to true Christianity in the face of despair and defeat, and ends with a prediction of more barbarian invasions. It focuses on the nature of faith in times of despair, and on the true strength of local kings in the face of empires."... you and all the kind of ChristAre ignorant and brave,And you have wars you hardly winAnd souls you hardly save...."In some far century, sad and slow,I have a vision, and I knowThe heathen shall return...."They shall come mild as monkish clerks,With many a scroll and pen;And backward shall ye turn and gaze,Desiring one of Alfred's days,When pagans still were men."

A collection of poems inspired by the life experiences of the author. D.F. Gregory started writing poetry and short stories as a pastime in his early forties, and more so during the period that he was a family carer to his late mother who was suffering from Alzheimer's and cancer, which was at a moment in his life when he found more time to reflect and indulge in his interest of writing. He eventually decided to turn what had started as a pastime into something that he could publish to share with a larger audience. Some of the poems are inspired by emotion, his experience as a carer, and others are inspired by his love of history and human nature.  His literary work continues.

Inspired by The Wiz, this debut, full-length poetry collection celebrates South Side Chicago and a Black woman's quest for self-discovery—one that pulls her away from the safety of home and into her power

I Done Clicked My Heels Three Times takes its inspiration and concept from the cult classic film The Wiz to explore a Black woman's journey out of the South Side of Chicago and into adulthood. The narrative arc of The Wiz—a tumultuous departure from home, trials designed to reveal new things about the self, and the eventual return home—serves as a loose trajectory for this collection, pulling listeners through an abandoned barn, a Wendy's drive-thru, a Beyoncé video, Grandma's house, Sunday service, and the corner store. At every stop, the speaker is made to confront her womanhood, her sexuality, the visibility of her body, alcoholism in her family, and various ways in which narratives are imposed on her.

Subverting monolithic ideas about the South Side of Chicago, and re-casting the city as a living, breathing entity, I Done Clicked My Heels Three Times spans sestinas, sonnets, free-verse, and erasures, all to reimagine the concept of home. Chicago isn't just a city, but a teacher, a lingering shadow, a way of seeing the world.
