Sinopsis

Jack the Ripper is history's most infamous serial killer. He was never identified, he hid the mystery amongst Victorian London's fog in 1888; a killer that murdered five women in a short space of time, between the end of summer and the beggining of autumn 1888, in the district of Whitechapel. Only to disappear and leave behind the intrigue and mystery that lasts in our days.

45.500 days have passed, 125 years since Jack murdered his five canonical victims and the evidence has always been right in front of us.

Using police techniques from the 21st Century, and after four years of investigation and analysis of the crime scenes and the clues left by the killer, this book shows the police investigation that breaks down the facts and clues and concludes in the only possible solution: the police report that includes the evidence of Jack the Ripper's true identity. A book that will not leave anyone indifferent.

A stirring memoir of a young, single woman's laborious struggle to save her family's New England apple farm from going under during the Great Depression.

The Orchard is a poignant memoir of a young woman's single-handed struggle to save her New England farm in the depths of the Great Depression. Discovered by the author's daughter after the author's death, it tells the story of Adele "Kitty" Robertson, young and energetic, but unprepared by her Radcliffe education for the rigors of apple farming in those bitter years of the early 1930s. Alone at the end of a country road, with only a Great Dane for company, plagued by debts, broken machinery, and killing frosts, Kitty revives the old orchard after years of neglect. Every day is a struggle, but every day she is also rewarded by the beauty of the world and the unexpected kindness of neighbors and hired workers.

Animated by quiet courage and simple goodness, The Orchard is a deeply moving celebration of decency and beauty in the midst of grim prospects and crushing poverty.

In addition to a foreword and epilogue by Betsy Robertson Cramer, the author's daughter, this edition includes a new afterword by award-winning author Jane Brox.

John Stuart Mill, a British philosopher and political economist, remains one of the most influential thinkers of the 19th century. Born in 1806, Mill was exposed to rigorous intellectual training from an early age, particularly through his father, James Mill, a prominent utilitarian philosopher. This early exposure shaped Mill's understanding of the world, leading him to become a key figure in the development of utilitarianism, a moral theory that evaluates actions based on their ability to promote the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people.
Mill’s contribution to utilitarianism was both a continuation and a refinement of the ideas originally proposed by Jeremy Bentham, his intellectual predecessor. While Bentham’s version of utilitarianism focused primarily on the quantity of pleasure or pain produced by an action, Mill introduced a more nuanced view by distinguishing between higher and lower pleasures. According to Mill, pleasures of the intellect, imagination, and moral feelings were superior to those of mere physical satisfaction. This distinction between qualitative pleasures was central to Mill’s revision of utilitarian thought, emphasizing that the quality of happiness mattered as much as, if not more than, its quantity.
In this chapter, we explore the foundations of utilitarianism as laid out by Mill. He argued that the ultimate goal of human life is to achieve happiness, which can be defined as the presence of pleasure and the absence of pain. Mill believed that utilitarianism provided a clear and objective standard by which to judge actions, policies, and societal practices. The greatest happiness principle, which advocates for actions that maximize overall happiness, is a central tenet of Mill’s ethical framework. However, Mill also recognized the complexity of applying this principle in real-life situations, acknowledging the challenges of balancing individual rights with the greater good.

"If there's a God, I want to see Him. It's pointless to believe in something without proof, and Krishna consciousness and meditation are methods where you can actually obtain God perception. In that way, you can see, hear and play with God. Perhaps this may sound weird, but God is really there next to you."

“"My life belongs to Lord Krishna now. I’m just the servant of Krishna. I’ve never been so humble in all my life, and I feel great!”
    — George Harrison

Although George Harrison often insisted he was only a regular guy, there is quite a lot of evidence to the contrary. Throughout his often magical, turbulent, unlikely life, he selflessly raised millions for charity and still does via the good works of his charity, The Material World Foundation. Harrison was, too, the grandfather of world music, introducing audiences to be exquisite, ethereal complexity of both Indian music and the spiritually liberating Sanskrit mantras from the Vedic scriptures. Harrison was also instrumental in turning a global audience to ethical vegetarianism, reincarnation, and the Hare Krishna philosophy.

In this expansive collection, there are no journalists getting in the way of the purity of George’s expansive ideas and his carefully told personal history. Here is George Harrison truly in his own words, speaking across the waters of time to generations of dedicated fans still deeply moved by this simple man’s great music, philosophical importance, and well-deserved historical significance.

Here is then the absolutely perfect collection of George Harrison’s finest thoughts, recollections, and untold Beatles tales important to the collection of every fan. George Harrison MBE was an English musician and singer-songwriter who achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of the Beatles.

How to be yourself at a party where you don’t know anyone?
    (Does the self exist?)
Why does Grandma put a cap and a plaid sweater on her Yorkie?
    (Do animals have a reason?)
How could I have stayed with such a stupid guy for so long?
(Do we only desire things that we consider good?)

When we hear “philosophy,” we sometimes think of incomprehensible or boring books. The very names of the authors are unpronounceable: Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Heidegger. Living or dead, they often look like zombies. They are in their own world and use words that we do not always understand, like “idiosyncrasy,” “ontological,” or “transcendental.” In this book, we hope to remove these prejudices. Philosophy is not boring; it allows us to understand complex things in a simple way, and therefore it is never far from everyday life. It speaks to everyone. It is for everyone.
