Sinopsis

How do artificial neural networks and other forms of artificial intelligence interfere with methods and practices in the sciences? Which interdisciplinary epistemological challenges arise when we think about the use of AI beyond its dependency on big data? Not only the natural sciences, but also the social sciences and the humanities seem to be increasingly affected by current approaches of subsymbolic AI, which master problems of quality (fuzziness, uncertainty) in a hitherto unknown way. But what are the conditions, implications, and effects of these (potential) epistemic transformations and how must research on AI be configured to address them adequately?

Most people aspire to become property owners and view real estate investments as an important way to build wealth and security. Mortgages are the norm. But does this system truly serve the well-being of either the economy or the individual? Martin Adams shares a view that profiting from land ownership causes social and cultural decline as well as environmental devastation. He introduces a radically new economic model that points to a more fair and abundant reality for everyone. He says this about mortgages, “As long as it remains an ongoing reality for the majority of human beings to have to pay other human beings for the land that they’re standing on, the economic system will forever cause wealth inequality at a core level.” Tune into this dynamic dialogue in order to fully understand his vision of a more equitable economic system that takes banks out of the picture and puts community in the center of economic of wealth and prosperity. An exploration of how the Cryogenian Period, when our planet was covered in ice for millions of years, created today's remarkable biodiversity

More than half a billion years ago, our world was completely covered by glaciers, a "Snowball Earth" that persisted for millions of years. Incredibly, this unimaginable cold led to the remarkable diversification of life on earth known as the Cambrian explosion. With a geologist's eye and a knack for storytelling, Graham Shields explores when and how such inhospitable conditions enabled animals to evolve, radiate, and diversify into our earliest ancestors.

This journey navigates the wild swings between hot and cold climates, oxygenation and asphyxiation, biological radiations and extinctions, asking how such instability relates to grander forces that brought our planet to its modern state. Shields guides listeners through evidence found in the Australian outback, Mongolia, Scotland, and other locales, revealing how geologists can trace glaciation, the atmosphere, oceans, mountain building, and more through the earth's rocks, providing a comprehensive theory of how life evolved and diversified.

With the widest catchment area of any river in Britain, the Tay drains much of the lower Highlands of Scotland. A vast network of lochs and smaller bodies of water feed the Isla, Garry, Tummel, Almond and Earn, which all flow into this mighty river.
As Robin Crawford walks along the banks of the Tay, we delve into the history of this landscape and his personal connection with it, from hill walks with friends into the mountains of the Tay's source to his student days in Dundee, where the Tay eventually spills out into the North Sea.
Along the route we dip into the river's story: the gold-panners on the river Cononish, the Earthquake House outside Comrie, Beatrix Potter's holiday home near Dunkeld. Throughout, the river is our constant companion, connecting the small moments on which events turn and lives are changed forever.

A lifelong fascination with all things bones. A four-decades-long hunt for the specimens of 2,500+ species past and present. An unwavering desire to preserve, appreciate, and display this rich history of life on Earth.
These things led to the establishment of the largest privately-held collection of osteological pieces in the world; a place where science displays are more like works of art ... capturing the attention of every eye that lands upon them, and telling a profound story without uttering a single word.
I'm Richard Jacobs. A casual trip with my family to a bone museum sparked a number of observations that I found too intriguing not to share.
Enjoy. And please, never stop being curious, and never stop asking questions – the good ones can lead to the greatest discoveries of mankind.

    2022 Genesis Prize Laureate
The exclusive, first-hand, behind-the-scenes story of how Pfizer raced to create the first Covid-19 vaccine, told by Pfizer’s Chairman and CEO Dr. Albert Bourla.
A riveting, fast-paced, inside look at one of the most incredible private sector achievements in history, Moonshot recounts the intensive nine months in 2020 when the scientists at Pfizer, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Albert Bourla, made “the impossible possible”—creating, testing, and manufacturing a safe and effective Covid-19 vaccine that previously would have taken years to develop.
Dr. Bourla chronicles how the brilliant, dedicated minds at Pfizer, under the enormous strains of the global pandemic, overcame a series of crises that were compounded by social and political unrest, and reveals the doubts, decisions, obstacles, and failures they encountered. As Dr. Bourla makes clear, Pfizer’s success wasn’t due to luck; it was because of preparation driven by four simple values—Courage, Excellence, Equity, and Joy.
Moonshot is a story of leadership under the most unprecedented circumstances—how Dr. Bourla, a Greek immigrant, a child of Holocaust survivors, and a veterinarian, became the head of one of the world’s largest corporations and initiated a dramatic transformation of the organization just before a global health crisis would serve to test the organization, its scientists, and its leader, like never before. Moonshot describes best practices that can be used to address the multiple, unprecedented challenges our world faces, reveals Pfizer’s implementation of scientific breakthroughs at a record-breaking pace, and offers leadership lessons that can help anyone successfully manage their own seemingly unsolvable problems. As Dr. Bourla explains, “I am sharing the story of our moonshot—the challenges we faced, the lessons we learned, and the core values that allowed us to make it happen—in hopes that it might inspire and inform your own moonshot, whatever that may be.”
