Summary

Mosquito-infested, dripping with miasmatic mists, flooded by marshes, creeks and lagoons, death by drowning is not an uncommon occurrence in L, a small, isolated town sunk into the banks of the Upper Mississippi River Basin. But when Doctor John Voltaire returns to the place of his birth to settle the "family estate," the drownings increase with a suspicious and frightening frequency, and Voltaire soon becomes a prime suspect in the investigation into the mysterious deaths. As mile-long oil trains cross crumbling city streets and railroad trestles, and acts of eco-terrorism further threaten civic safety, Doctor Voltaire utilizes logic, reason, and homeopathic remedies to confront his family, fate, and the intersection where the personal and the planetary collide.

A shocking, heart-rending, and blisteringly funny account of what it's like to live with mental illness, by a powerful new comic voice. When Michelle Thomas suffered her first major depressive episode six years ago, she read and watched and listened to everything about mental health she could get her hands on in an effort to fix herself. God, it was tedious, boring, and, quite frankly, depressing.Which is the last thing she needed. What she did need was a therapist who would listen and offer a wellness strategy catered to her specific needs. What she got was advice to watch a few YouTube videos and a cheerful reminder that "It could be worse."An honest, hilarious, and heart-rending account of living with mental illness, My Sh*t Therapist will help you navigate the world, care for your mind, and get through sh*t diagnoses, jobs, medications, boyfriends, habits, homes, and therapists. With no miraculous scented candles, herbal teas, or "cures" for mental illness in sight, learn instead how a modern woman and her friends and followers are learning to make the most of brilliant but unpredictably sh*t brains.

The explosive debut novel featuring hard-nosed cop “Fang” Mulheisen—from an author who “stands right up there with the best chroniclers of urban crime” (The New York Times).   The city of Detroit doesn’t have many places anyone would exactly call “nice.” But the exclusive enclave of Indian Village is an oasis of calm surrounded by urban blight. At least until a beautiful young heiress is murdered during a home robbery gone horribly wrong . . . if that really is what happened.   Detroit’s Det. Sgt.“Fang” Mulheisen isn’t so sure. The coincidences of the case are just a bit too coincidental, the ruthlessness of the crime goes way beyond a punk thief looking for a quick score, and the victim’s big-banker husband may owe some very bad people more than just money. What they want is blood. And Mulheisen may be the only man who can keep them from getting it.   With gritty detail, whip-smart dialogue, and street-level action, “the elaboration of the plot and the quality of the writing put The Diehard pretty close to the top of its class” (The New York Times Book Review).
