Sinopse

A “brilliant” novel of a party girl in 1980s Manhattan, by the author of Bright Lights, Big City (The Sunday Times).   Twenty-something aspiring actress Alison Poole is well versed in hopping the clubs, shopping Chanel, falling in and out of lust, and abusing other people’s credit cards. As she traverses nocturnal New York with her coterie of coke-addicted friends—and races toward emotional breakdown—the author of Brightness Falls and other acclaimed works of fiction gives us a funny, poignant portrait of a postmodern Holly Golightly coming to terms with a world in which everything is permitted and nothing really matters.   “Jay McInerney has proven himself not only a brilliant stylist but a master of characterization, with a keen eye for incongruities of urban life.” —The New York Times Book Review   “[McInerney’s] talent for capturing the nuances and idiosyncrasies of our culture [in Bright Lights, Big City] is even more powerfully evident in Story of My Life . . . Underneath Alison’s hip, party-girl exterior and flippant vernacular is McInerney’s disturbing depiction of a young woman caught in the traumatic reality of her times.” —San Francisco Chronicle   “Story of My Life is quite as brilliant as Bright Lights, Big City and a lot funnier.” —The Sunday Times

Shamus Award-winner John Straley returns to his critically acclaimed Cecil Younger detective series, set in Sitka, Alaska, a land of perfect beauty and not-so-perfect locals.
Criminal defense investigator Cecil Younger spends his days coaching would-be felons on how to avoid incriminating themselves. He even likes most of the rough characters who seek his services. So when Sherrie, a returning client with a good heart but a penchant for bad boys, asks him to track down some evidence that will help with her case, Cecil agrees. Maybe he'll find something that will get her abusive boyfriend locked up for good.
Cecil treks out to the shady apartment complex she mentioned, only to find his teenage daughter, Blossom, inside. He manages to get both the box Sherrie wanted and his daughter safely home, and later discovers the "evidence" is a large pile of cash—fifty thousand dollars, to be exact. That is how Cecil finds himself in violation of one of his own maxims: Nothing good comes of walking around with a lot of someone else's money.
In this case, "nothing good" turns out to be a deep freeze full of drug-stuffed fish, a murder witnessed at close range, and a kidnapping—Blossom is snatched as collateral for his cooperation. The reluctant, deeply unlucky investigator turns to an unlikely source for help: the misfit gang of clients he's helped to defend over the years. Together, they devise a plan to free Blossom and restore order to Sitka. But when your only hope for justice lies in the hands of a group of criminals, things don't always go according to plan.

This unorthodox biography of “the greatest comic writer ever” collects Wodehouse’s witty and revealing commentary on his own life story (Douglas Adams)

As creator of memorable comic characters, including the immortal Jeeves and Wooster, P.G. Wodehouse was one of the most beloved and influential authors of the 20th century. This sparkling volume draws on Wodehouse’s autobiographical writings, as well as personal letters and interview transcripts to present the author’s life story as only he could tell it.

Quotations from a literary career spanning more than seventy years are arranged in chapters that move from childhood to school years and on to various preoccupations of the grown man. A linking narrative—skillfully supplied by Wodehouse aficionado Barry Day and former President of the International Wodehouse society Tony Ring—ties all the material together. Full of Wodehouse’s scintillating wordplay and comedy, P.G. Wodehouse in His Own Words is essential reading for any Wodehouse fan.

A very funny book packed with very funny stories, written by a very funny and often peculiar man Jonathan Ross. The Samuel Pepys of East London Maurice Gran. As the lead singer of Modern Romance he toured the world, as the screenwriter of Kinky Boots he conquered Hollywood, now comes Geoff Deane's latest act as a brilliant and witty ranconteur in this hilarious memoir. Geoff Deane has worked as a fly-pitcher selling out of a suitcase, and flogged suits on Brick Lane market in London's East End. He was the singer in a much-loved culty punk band the Leyton Buzzards, a floppy-haired pop star in Modern Romance, a songwriter, and record producer. He wrote a gay anthem for John Waters drag queen muse Divine, worked as journalist and restaurant critic for style magazines The Face and Arena, before becoming a successful writer and producer of TV comedy. And then he wrote a couple of films, one of which, Kinky Boots, became a Tony Award winning Broadway stage show. With a cast ranging from local oddballs to international celebrities, Geoff Deane's unique take on the world is only matched by his extraordinarily rich use of language, with a smattering of Cockney rhyming slang, Yiddish and Polari. A glossary is provided.
