Sinopse

South Pole Race vividly recounts the parallel journeys of Roald Amundsen and Robert Falcon Scott as they raced to the South Pole in the early 20th century. This historical adventure meticulously examines their contrasting approaches to polar exploration, highlighting Amundsen's pragmatic use of sled dogs and meticulous planning versus Scott's more traditional methods and logistical miscalculations. The book emphasizes how this iconic competition encapsulates human ambition and the limits of endurance.

The book progresses chronologically, detailing the planning stages, the treacherous routes undertaken, and the critical decisions made by each team amidst the harsh Antarctic environment. Primary sources, like explorers' journals, are woven with scientific data and historical context to dissect leadership styles and survival strategies. Readers gain insight into the "Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration" and the geographical challenges that shaped the explorers' fates, offering valuable lessons applicable far beyond polar expeditions.

A land of almost 3 million square miles has lain since time immemorial on the southern flank of the planet, so isolated that it remained entirely outside of European knowledge until 1770. However, the first human footprints on this vast territory were felt 70,000 years earlier, as people began to cross the periodic land bridges and the short sea crossings from Southeast Asia.
By the mid-17th century, the existence of a land in the south referred to as Terra Australis was generally known and understood by the Europeans, and incrementally, its shores were observed and mapped. Van Diemen’s Land, an island off the south coast of Australia now called Tasmania, was identified in 1642 by Dutch mariner Abel Tasman, and a few months later, the intrepid Dutchman would add New Zealand to the map of the known world.
At the time, the English were the greatest naval power in Europe, but they arrived on the scene rather later. The first to appear was William Dampier, captain of the HMS Roebuck, in 1699, after he had been granted a Royal Commission by King William III to explore the east coast of New Holland. By then, the general global balance of power was shifting, and with the English gaining a solid foothold in India, their supremacy in the Indian Ocean trade zone began. The Dutch, once predominant in the region, began slowly to lose ground, slipping out of contention as a major global trading power. So too were the Portuguese, also once dominant in the region. It was now just the French and the English who were facing one another down in a quest to dominate the world, but their imperial interests were focused mainly in India and the East Indies, as well as the Caribbean and the Americas. As a result, the potential of a vast, practically uninhabited great southern continent did not yet hold much interest. By then the world was largely mapped, with just regions such as the Arctic Archipelago and the two poles remaining terra incognita.

In this 2024 conversation with Travis Glen Sebera, Schwartz explores what the Internal Family Systems [IFS] model encompasses and how healing our own inner world can create ripples of compassion that extend from ourselves to our communities. These internal parts of the self can debilitate us with paralyzing fear, shame, feelings of not being good enough, and other enfeebling influences. Schwartz describes the goal of IFS is to help the internal parts of the self to transform from their extreme states into who they're designed to be. He gives several examples of how he works with people such as care-givers who also become incapacitated by arthritis, or highly driven corporate executives who are overly dependent on achieving goals, as well as working with those who suffer from shame. He acknowledges that these parts are neither good nor bad and each can have wonderful qualities. His work is to encourage people to listen to these parts with spaciousness and personal curiosity so as to ultimately live a more balanced life.
Richard C. Schwartz, Ph.D. is the creator of the therapeutic model known as Internal Family Systems [IFS] and founder of the IFS Institute which offers training for professionals and the general public. Formerly an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois at Chicago and later at Northwestern University, he is currently on the faculty of Harvard Medical School. He is the author of many books including:No Bad Parts: Healing Trauma, and Restoring Wholeness with The Internal Family Systems Model (Sounds True 2021)

In the 1930's an entire nation was brainwashed. It was manipulated by masters of propaganda and the arcane arts. The result was the deaths of millions of people. The world was changed in just a few short years.

The men behind this massive scheme were members of the most evil and vile of political parties ever to have existed. We know them as the Nazis.

Their purpose was to bring about the rise of a so-called Aryan race. A race that would rule the world for a thousand years. This would be the third reich.

In-order to see the fulfilment of their grand scheme they needed to eradicate certain races from the globe and subjugate others. In-order to achieve this, they needed millions of people to believe and follow them and only them. And so they created a messiah, a God on Earth. His name was Adolf Hitler and he would become the master of manipulating the hearts and souls of man.

From mass hypnosis to blatant propaganda, from control of the media to eradicating the opposition. All methods were employed.

This is the story of how that incredible goal was actually brought to fruition and the methods used to control the minds of men. This is the story of Nazi Propaganda.
