Sinopse

This anthology brings before you impressions of war, its impact, lasting loss, and pain from poets around the world. It is only befitting that we talk about it before it is too late as our world dwindles into nothing. Asking questions about ethics, responsibility, and action, this collection seeks to touch a chord with those who watch the world with horror in these tensions of war. Despite our history, we are still not over with our greed. We still do not learn what it is to live and love in peace. The editors of this collection welcome you, dear reader, to get a glimpse of these worlds. We hope this work will touch your souls and make you one with them and push you to contribute to the eradication of war in your ways.

During a hiking trip with their parents in the mountains of California, cousins Owen, Vivian, and Amy are finally allowed to camp for one night at a little lake all on their own. But when a massive earthquake blocks their return path, there’s only one way home: the long way around, through a wilderness filled with fierce animals, raging rivers, unstable weather, and high passes.

However, the hardest challenges the cousins face are the troubles they’ve brought with them: bold Vivian’s fear of starting middle school (and of things she can’t control); Owen’s lingering emotional scars from a car accident, which have left him feeling like there’s a glass wall between him and the rest of the world; and Amy’s desire to live in fantastical stories rather than in boring regular life.

Drawing on courage and humor, the cousins must weather storms, make the most of dwindling rations, and face their deepest fears in order to bring each other safely home.

In prehistoric Norway (5000 BC), twin siblings Asha and Cosmo are captured by raiders from their peaceful tribe. Trapped in a crude stockade, clever Asha and brave Cosmo plot their escape, loosening stakes under cover of darkness. One moonless night, they slip free, fleeing into the vast, untamed wilderness—a land of towering pines, hidden dangers, and eerie beauty. Exhausted and lost, they stumble upon Fluffy, a tiny, talking woolly mammoth separated from his herd.
Though shocked by Fluffy’s ability to speak, Asha bonds with the lonely calf, while warrior-minded Cosmo vows to protect them both. Together, the trio—united by loss and hope—forge an unlikely friendship. They share stories, scavenge for food, and face the wilderness’s perils, from prowling wolves to the lingering threat of the raiders. As the northern stars emerge, they take their first steps toward an uncertain journey home, discovering that courage and companionship might light the way.

Why does God work in mysterious ways? One of the greatest saints ever to live, Catherine of Siena is mostly known for inspiring the pope to return to Rome from France, but her story begins as a young woman who thinks she is called to be a hermit! How did God turn this aspiring hermitess into someone who was called to argue with the pope himself and his whole entire court? See how little Catherine learns to love God and achieve great sanctity through loving the people she cares for along the way.
Mary Fabyan Windeatt was known as “the storyteller of the saints.” In the 1950’s and 60’s, she wrote over twenty historical fiction novels on the saints, bringing to life these holy men and women for young readers across the world. By artistically rendering familiar stories, the Windeatt books help readers see that the saints are real people whom we can emulate.
Ideal for all children, especially those enrolled in TAN Academy in the fourth through sixth grades for easy-reading literature.
