Synopsis

Bound by duty--loosed by destiny

Mollie Sheehan has spent much of her life striving to be a dutiful daughter and honor her father's wishes, even when doing so has led to one heartbreak after another. After all, what options does she truly have in 1860s Montana? But providing for her stepfamily during her father's long absences doesn't keep her from wishing for more.

When romance blooms between her and Peter Ronan, Mollie finally allows herself to hope for a brighter future--until her father voices his disapproval of the match and moves her to California to ensure the breakup. Still, time and providence are at work, even when circumstances are at their bleakest. Mollie may soon find that someone far greater than her father is in control of the course of her life--and that even the command to "honor thy father" has its limits.

"Readers will enjoy the sweeping landscapes, complex father-daughter relationship, and the unassuming power and relevancy of this wonderfully multilayered novel."--Booklist

Two hundred and fifty years ago, victory in the American Revolution empowered its founding fathers to consider a glorious ‘revolutionary idea’: a democracy of inclusiveness and diversity for all. Yet, America’s revolution never meant to include the enslaved, who lived in small, dark squares of windowless slave houses.

At Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Constitutional Convention of 1787, compromises perpetuated America’s ‘slave society’ based on free labour, benefiting its citizenry to the detriment of America’s slave row. For the next seventy-eight years, ‘America’s democracy’ permitted this vile
system of slavery to continue. However, slave revolutions, revolutionary voices, and prayers persisted. As the smoke cleared from the battlefields of the American Civil War, Juneteenth (June 19, 1865) granted America a full Independence Day.

The question remains to this very day whether the formerly enslaved and their descendants will ever fully receive the rights, reparations, and benefits of full citizenship in our American democracy. Revolutionary voices must continue to set an example for the entire world of the
    revolutionary idea that is democracy.

The next 250 years will answer this question as America approaches its 500th anniversary.

Alessandra Fleming has spent most of her life running from her past. Her budding photography career, her life in Manhattan, all serve to distract from the secrets and guilt she's never been able to face. Then the call. Her estranged father is in the hospital . . . and Alessandra must return home to Sag Harbor, crumbling the first wall between her past and her present.

For some, coming home is a relief. For Alessandra, it's a reminder of the family she's lost, of the time she'll never regain. But the answers—the secrets—of her family are hidden in the house, waiting for her. And the only one who may be able to help her uncover them is her father's neighbor, Zach, who brings with him an attraction that's intense and instantaneous.

Now Alessandra is being pulled back not only into her own complex family history, but into the richly documented lives of four extraordinary women. Generations touched by tragedy and triumph, despair and hope. And it's in these aching echoes of the past that Alessandra's own story—her mistakes and her capacity to love—will take shape, guiding her to the life she's meant to live . . . and the extraordinary person she will become.

🔥 A Revolutionary Tale of Vengeance, Justice, and the Masks We Wear
They came in the night, wearing porcelain masks. By dawn, the aristocracy trembled.
Paris, 1788—A city on the edge of revolution, where the elite feast while the people starve.
When the Duke of Montreuil is found brutally dismembered in his locked bedchamber, Police Chief Émile Vaudrin faces an impossible case. No forced entry. No witnesses. Only a chilling message written in blood: "The Debt is Paid."
As more nobles fall to the masked killers known only as The Syndicate, Vaudrin is caught between duty and morality. These aren't random murders—they're executions. Each victim hides unspeakable crimes behind their powdered wigs and silk finery.
Vaudrin's investigation leads him into the labyrinthine catacombs beneath Paris, where he discovers the truth is more terrifying than any ghost story. The Syndicate is no supernatural force—they're something far more dangerous: ordinary people driven to extraordinary measures.
As revolution brews above ground, Vaudrin faces an impossible choice. Join the law he's sworn to uphold, or the vigilantes who bring a darker kind of justice?

Gregory George Notso Normal, and five of his buds, after a couple of beers at the American Legion Post, decide to take on the woke, politically correct crowd. These woke, politically incorrect whippersnappers fill the World Wide Web with their truth. Which in most cases is not the truth at all. Notso and the five form COPs, Curmudgeonly Old Poops. They decide to put the real truth, COP-truth out there. That will set the whippersnappers straight. It doesn’t take long, though, before the COPs run into trouble with the American Legion Post Commander, the police (real cops), and their own spouses, The Hermudgeons.
On the other side of the ledger, the Old Poops develop a required reading list for membership in COPs. The Hermudgeons are amazed to discover their Poop husbands will turn off Gunsmoke to read books. The Hers read the books, too, and are even more amazed.
