Beschreibung

Cambrian Tales appeared in serialised form in Ainsworth's Magazine from March 1849 to March 1850 and has not previously been published as a novel.Like the political pamphlet Artegall, also included in this volume, it constitutes part of Jane Williams' attempts to defend Wales against the notorious 'Blue Books', the 1847 government report which damned the Welsh as ignorant, immoral, and barbaric.A comedy of manners, set in and around a Welsh country house, it features characters clearly modelled on Ysgafell's patron, Lady Llanover, and her social circle. Also included are two representative poems, one from Celtic Fables (1862), a feminist reworking of ancient legend, and the previously unpublished 'A Petition' in which a night-cap maker protests against her dire exploitation.Ysgafell's social conscience, her patriotism, and her sardonic humour are evident throughout the volume.

Winner, 2022 PNWA Nancy Pearl Award for Memoir! At age forty, Parker surrendered to her Swept Away meets Swiss Family Robinson fantasy of owning an inn in Latin America, far from her home in the Pacific Northwest. For the next twenty-plus years Parker ran La Finca Caribe, an eco-lodge in Vieques, Puerto Rico. What started as a "half-baked duct-taped dream" grew into an acclaimed, rustic inn, frequented by guests from around the world. Sketchbook in hand, Parker chronicled her daily adventures in getting to know the land, culture and herself. La Finca is a lively memoir about a woman creating a new life amid countless challenges, including hurricanes that led her to reconsider everything. It is a story about trusting oneself, self-discovery, accepting disappointment and loss, and falling in love with a place.

There is something about the number 3.

The Ancient Greeks believed 3 was the perfect number, and in China 3 has always been a lucky number, and they know a thing or two.

Most religions also have 3 this and 3 that and, of course, in these more modern times, three’s a crowd may be too many, except when it’s a ménage à trois. It seems good things usually come in threes.

Whatever history and culture says WE think 3, a hat-trick of stories, is a great number to explore themes and literary avenues that classic authors were so adept at creating.

Born enslaved. Silenced by force. Awakened by truth and the will to resist.
In this deeply personal and powerful autobiography, Frederick Douglass recounts his life in bondage with searing honesty—exposing the cruelty of slavery, the violence of oppression, and the moment he claimed ownership of his own mind. More detailed and reflective than his earlier narrative, this work traces his journey from enslavement to freedom, education, and moral awakening.

Regarded as "one of the most important autobiographies in American history," this book stands as both a gripping personal story and a forceful indictment of slavery. Douglass's voice—clear, courageous, and uncompromising—continues to inspire readers across generations.

If you seek truth, resilience, and a story that helped reshape a nation's conscience, this essential classic belongs on your shelf.

Open the book—and witness the making of a voice that refused to be silenced.
