Sinopsis

Is Sex Necessary? Why You Feel the Way You Do was the first book of prose published by James Thurber and E.B. White, a landmark collaboration that blends their unmatched humor and literary genius. Together, they examine the great mysteries of life—romance, love, and marriage—with a satirical twist. A timeless spoof of the era's scientific sexual theories, the book offers a sidesplitting critique of men, women, and the psychologists who sought to explain their behavior. Enhanced by more than fifty of Thurber's iconic illustrations, this enduring masterpiece remains as sharp and relevant as ever.
In a 1950 preface, White reflected on the book's origins: "Thurber and I were neither more, nor less, interested in the subject of love and marriage than anybody else of our age in that era. I recall that we were both profoundly interested in earning a living, and I think we somehow managed, simultaneously, to arrive at the conclusion that ... the heavy writers had got sex down and were breaking its arm. We were determined that sex should maintain its high spirits."
Writing alternate chapters and then comparing them for overlap, Thurber and White infused the text with invented pseudo-sexual jargon—terms like "Diversion Subterfuge," "Osculatory Justification," and "Schmalhausen Trouble." They even fabricated a cast of imaginary psychologists and sex researchers, including the illustrious Dr. Karl Zaner and Dr. Walter Titheridge, to enhance their satirical edge.
A work of unmatched drollery and creativity, Is Sex Necessary? transcends its time to delight readers with its clever commentary and unrelenting humor. It is a celebration of the absurdities of human relationships and the resilience of good cheer in the face of complexity.

The Art of the Delusion is a meditation on power, image, and the quiet disappearance of truth beneath the glow of persuasion. In a world where confidence outweighs competence and charisma becomes currency, reality is no longer discovered — it’s negotiated. This book dissects the psychology of performance: how ambition turned into identity, how sincerity became spectacle, and how modern life taught us to sell versions of ourselves instead of understanding who we are. Written in lyrical, critical prose, it examines the new economy of illusion — where authenticity is curated, morality is optional, and the art of influence has replaced the pursuit of integrity.

Discourse on Method is a philosophical and autobiographical work by the French philosopher René Descartes. It was published in 1637 and is considered one of the most influential works in the history of modern Western philosophy.
The main purpose of Discourse on Method is to outline Descartes' method of systematic doubt and his search for certain knowledge. Descartes was skeptical of traditional sources of knowledge, such as authority, tradition, and sensory experience, and believed that true knowledge could only be obtained through reason and intuition.
In the work, Descartes also presents his famous dictum "Cogito, ergo sum" ("I think, therefore I am"), which he uses as the starting point for his philosophy. He argues that the very act of thinking proves one's existence, and that this provides a firm foundation for all knowledge.
Discourse on Method is also notable for its contributions to the development of analytical geometry, as Descartes uses his method to develop a new system of algebraic notation and a way to graph equations.
Overall, Discourse on Method is an important work in the history of philosophy and science, and its influence can still be seen in contemporary debates about the nature of knowledge and the role of reason in human understanding.

The P-38 Lightning was one of the fastest operational fighters of World War II, famous for its successes in North Africa and the Pacific. In The P-38 Lightning and the Men Who Flew It, Wolfgang W. E. Samuel shares the stories of the young men who climbed into the cockpits of the P-38 to fight for freedom, and of those who created, tested, and deployed these fearsome machines.

The P-38 was the product of the Lockheed Corporation, the first fighter they ever built, principally conceptualized by Kelly Johnson, whose design was to meet Air Corps specifications. But it was no easy plane to fly.

P-38 units were formed quickly once the United States entered World War II in December 1941. Training was rushed to get pilots and planes to Europe as quickly as possible to serve as bomber escorts. Although the P-38 could fly at the high altitudes the bombers flew, it was not the right aircraft for the mission. In North Africa's warmer air, however, the P-38 came into its own.

This book focuses on the men who flew this challenging aircraft and the men who designed and decided how to deploy it. In the Pacific skies, the P-38, its pilots, and designers made the heroic history captured here.
