Sinopse

"To die will be an awfully big adventure."

When Peter Pan flies through the nursery window of the Darling family, he isn't just looking for his lost shadow—he's looking for a mother for his band of Lost Boys. Leading Wendy, John, and Michael across the sky to the second star to the right, Peter introduces them to Neverland: a world of mermaids, fairies, and the villainous Captain Jas. Hook. But beneath the whimsy lies a poignant reality. Peter's "eternal youth" comes at the cost of his memory and heart, creating a world where the only thing more dangerous than a pirate is the passage of time.

The Psychology of the Never-Bird: Barrie's Peter Pan is a "tragic boy"—heartless, forgetful, and innocent. Unlike the Disney version, the original Peter is a feral figure who "thins" the ranks of the Lost Boys when they grow too old. The novel explores the "Mother" archetype through Wendy, who must eventually choose between the magic of Neverland and the responsibility of the real world.

The Dual Duel: Hook vs. Peter: The rivalry between Peter and Hook is a clash of philosophies. Hook, a man of "Good Form" and educated at Eton, represents the rigid, decaying world of adulthood and mortality—stalked literally by the ticking clock inside the Crocodile. Peter represents the chaotic, amoral freedom of youth. Their battle is not just about survival, but about the very nature of identity.

Experience the magic and the melancholy. Purchase "Peter Pan" today and fly to the shores of Neverland.

The states comprising the Northeast have a long history as some of the earliest colonies in the New World. Their rich folklore and colorful history is woven into the national identity, and destinations such as Plymouth Rock, the lighthouses of Maine, and Vermont’s autumn leaves are quintessential symbols of the United States. But the Northeast has always had a dark side, a strange side. Monsters and ghosts lurk in its woods and old houses, and strange monuments that may be from a forgotten civilization puzzle local investigators. All the while, the early inhabitants themselves were always superstitious, as evidenced by history’s most famous witch trials at Salem.
The American South has given birth to many of the nation’s great stories and legends. From the earliest Colonial times, it’s been a place of mystery, replete with disappearing colonies and strange apparitions in the woods, but the South’s long and proud history has always had a darker, and stranger, side to it. In fact, one of America’s most famous mysteries was its first. Future settlements in the area would survive and start to flourish, and that would bring more mystery and unexplained phenomena. Tales of monsters and ghosts lurking in its woods and old houses, and strange monuments that may be from a forgotten civilization, puzzle local investigators.
The Midwest is rich in history and folklore, and it has more than its fair share of mysteries, too. Strange creatures, Native American legends, haunted houses, and unexplained phenomena are rife in these states, and this book will uncover just a sample of the countless strange tales of America’s heartland.

Space exploration was always an expensive business, and throughout NASA’s history, the agency has had to justify to Congress its need for every dollar it intended to spend. This problem has helped NASA to be more careful and more creative with the money they did receive, and scientists had to justify the equipment they wanted to include on each space probe. They had to justify the size and the power demand, too. If they wanted too much, the entire mission might be scrubbed, and all their work would have been for naught. This made planning and designs leaner and more efficient, as scientists and engineers were more careful with their recommendations.
In fact, the Pioneer program was the most diversified sequence of any of NASA’s programs, and though they’re now remembered for being among the first probes in history to reach the Outer Solar System, the elaborate planning changed goals several times over several years before resulting in historic successes. NASA had wanted to do a Grand Tour of the Solar System toward the end of the 1970s to take advantage of the scheduled alignment of planets, which meant the Pioneer missions were meant to be test runs prior to the main events (Voyager 1 and Voyager 2), and a great many things discovered by Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11 were essential to the successful planning of the Voyager probes.
Voyager 1 and 2 have done far more than accomplish their original missions. In fact, they are now exploring interstellar space, far beyond the outer planets in the cold wasteland between the stars. Each spacecraft carries a copy of a golden record which contains an introduction to Earth, should some alien civilization happen to encounter either Voyager 1 or Voyager 2. In the first Star Trek movie, writers imagined just that, creating a story of a Voyager spacecraft being captured and adapted for its own uses.
