Sinossi

Warren township in the southern portion of Herkimer County has been the scene of more than one gruesome event. In January 1885, locals reeled in horror when disgruntled wife Roxalana Druse shot her husband and dismembered his corpse to incinerate it in a farm house stove. Her trial and hanging was followed up in May of 1901 with two murders in yet another farm house kitchen. John C. Wallis had allowed his ex-wife Arvilla to return home, one year after running off with hired farm hand Ben Hoyt. Wallis then rehired Hoyt and within months both Ben Hoyt and Arvilla Wallis were dead. Did Ben Hoyt murder Arvilla in cold blood or did John C. Wallis kill both of them? Author James M. Greiner investigates a mysterious case of marriage, infidelity and multiple murders in turn of the century Herkimer County.

Mother Media - Hot and Cool...

From the nursery to the prison, from the clinic to the commune, Mother Media tells the story of how we arrived at our contemporary understanding of what a mother is and how understandings of "bad" mothering formed our contemporary panics about "bad" media. In this book, leading historian of psychology Hannah Zeavin examines twentieth-century pediatric, psychological, educational, industrial, and economic norms around mediated mothering and technologized parenting. The book charts the crisis of the family across the twentieth century and the many ingenious attempts to remediate nursemaid and mother via speculative technologies and screen media.

Growing out of her previous award-winning book The Distance Cure, which considered technologized care, the book lays bare the contradictions of techno-parenting and how it relates to conceptions of "maternal fitness," medical redlining, and surveillance of children, parents, and other caregivers. The author offers narratives of parenting in its extremity (for example, Shaken Baby Syndrome) and its ostensible banality (for example, the Nanny Cam) and how the two are often intertwined. Ultimately, Zeavin grapples with a simple contradiction: technology is seen and judged as harmful in domestic and educational spaces, even as it is a saving grace in the unending labor of raising a family.

Critical theory is an interdisciplinary approach designed to critique and transform society rather than merely understanding it. Originating from the Frankfurt School in the early 20th century, with key figures like Max Horkheimer, Theodor Adorno, and Herbert Marcuse, critical theory examines how power structures, ideologies, and social conditions shape human experiences.

The scope of critical theory includes an analysis of historical and social contexts that give rise to various forms of domination and oppression. It investigates how historical events and social structures influence contemporary practices and ideologies. A significant focus is on power dynamics and ideological constructs that perpetuate inequality and social injustice, scrutinizing how power operates across politics, economy, and culture.

Critical theory employs an interdisciplinary approach, integrating insights from philosophy, sociology, political science, and cultural studies to provide a comprehensive analysis of social phenomena. It also critiques modernity and its associated ideologies, such as capitalism and positivism, challenging the assumptions and values underlying these systems.

The science behind hugging. Dr. Stone's prescription is for a twenty-one-second hug today and every day. One of the many benefits of hugging is that longer hugs have proven physiological benefits. Hugs are good for your immune system, your stress response, your sleep patterns, and so much more.

Hug Therapy brings to life the meaning of hugging. In this book, you will discover what it means to really, truly give yourself and others the profound gift of a hug; how to be powerfully in action and more aware of what matters to you most; that you may choose to begin hugging some strangers . . . with their blessing of course; and perhaps most importantly, that together, one literal or metaphorical hug at a time, we make the world a better, healthier, and more connected place.

Embrace life. Hug Therapy shares a full-on, unconditional hug from Dr. Stone Kraushaar. In this book, he invites you to wrap your arms around yourself, your life, and everyone around you in a whole new way. A good embrace—a hug—squeezes every ounce of fear, worry, and negativity out of your spirit, leaving you with nothing but warmth, inner peace, and a feeling of connection.
