Summary

A smouldering play about escaping the past, seizing the present and owning the future.
2nd May 1997. An historic victory. The Tories, eighteen years in power, are defeated as New Labour sweeps into government. From the euphoria and despair, three deeply personal stories emerge.
Tory MP Robert prepares to attend the count. With defeat looming large, he fears becoming a forgotten man, while his wife Marie counts the cost of her own sacrifice to politics. Lib Dem footsoldier Ian is no hero, but party-crasher Sarah is determined to make him one. Best mates Jake and Will wake up with a new world order to memorise before their A-level Politics class. Jake dreams of Number 10. Will dreams of Jake.
'rising playwright Jack Thorne takes us back in time with such quiet profundity and verve you get a burst of inspiration to match the uplift of those distant days' - Telegraph
'richly rewarding... playwright Jack Thorne elegantly refracts the early hours of Blair through three very different relationships... A superb 90 minutes' -Evening Standard
Available since: 10/09/2015.

For many years, Christmas has been inspired poets and composers. Carols and poems are an essential part of the season of good will. Many of them are familiar and an important part of the annual celebrations, yet there is also a need for new material to offer new insights into the familiar story.

In this book Kevin Carey has combined his four earlier volumes of illustrated Christmas poetry with a new selection of poems and songs for all who are looking for new inspiration at Christmas time and beyond.

This is a Century for the history books. The Chinese curse of living in interesting times could not be more suited.

A small island continued its expansion across the globe bringing both good and evil in its march. Empires clashed. Revolution shook many. The Industrial Age was upon us.

Poets spoke up against slavery bringing social and political pressure upon an abominable horror. It was also the Age of the Romantics; Shelley, Keats, Byron lyrically rapture. Tennyson, Arnold, Browning rode a century of sweeping change of dynamism and great verse.

The Farmer's Bride is a collection of 28 poems by British modernist writer Charlotte Mew. The original edition was published in 1916; this edition, published in 1921, contains 11 more poems. Mew's poetry is varied in style and content, but manifests a concern with gender issues throughout. Mew's life was marked by loneliness and depression, and she eventually committed suicide. Her work earned her the admiration of her peers, including Virginia Woolf, who characterized her as "very good and quite unlike anyone else." (Summary by Elizabeth Klett)
