These are the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, a plan of contemplation to be carried out over about a month. St. Ignatius of Loyola (1419-1556) was the founder of the Jesuits, and was canonized by Pope Gregory XV in 1622. He published the Spiritual Exercises in 1548. The Exercises were intended for use by someone who would be conducting a retreat and are a series of notes on methods and things to cover. As such they read more like a manual and overview than a devotional book that one can look to for edification. They presume the person conducting the retreat or the exercises has already been through them. They are a central part of the first year training of Jesuit novitiates. However, one does not have to be a Jesuit-in-training to take advantage of the Exercises: Increasingly, lay people and even non-Catholics follow this path

When the British Government turn down a revolutionary weapons system in favour of the new Euro fighter they don't realise the wrath their decision will cause. The only radar system capable of detecting the new Thor's Hammer is the experimental Spyglass system being transported on a cruise liner commanded by ex-Navy Captain Eric Swanson.
Martin Westfarland, designer of Thor's Hammer, decides to teach the British Government a lesson by sinking the liner and destroying Spyglass before passing Thor's Hammer onto the Iraqis who plan to use it to deliver a deadly bio-weapon to the west.
Through a series of action-filled events, Swanson and Squadron Leader Gerry Denton are brought together to thwart the terrorist attack, while the SAS are assigned to locate and destroy the chemical lab in the Syrian Desert, which created the virus. Unfortunately the virus has already been loaded onto Thor's Hammer. Thus it falls to Denton to fly the Typhoon Euro fighter against the faster and stealthier Thor's Hammer before it can deliver its deadly payload.

Once upon a time, in a mouse community in the heart of the forest, there arose a concern that echoed through the tiny homes and burrows. The mice were troubled by the stealthy and elusive cat that prowled in the shadows, posing a constant threat to their safety.
After a heated discussion during a community gathering, the mice realized they needed a way to be warned of the cat's approach. In their quest for a solution, a wise old mouse named Simon proposed an idea that garnered much attention—a bell should be placed around the cat's neck. This way, the tinkling sound would serve as an early warning, giving the mice ample time to scamper to safety.
Excitement filled the air as the mice embraced Simon's suggestion. However, as the discussion progressed, a practical concern arose. Who would bell the cat? The thought of approaching the stealthy feline to attach a bell seemed daunting and perilous.
The bravest and most agile mouse in the community, a young and spirited rodent named Oliver, volunteered for the daunting task. The other mice, relieved to have a courageous soul among them, applauded Oliver's bravery.

What if the colors you see every day are only a tiny fraction of what truly exists?
In Beyond the Ultra-Violet, a young physics student volunteers for an experiment that gradually shifts human sight beyond the visible spectrum. At first the change seems miraculous. Ordinary colors fade away, replaced by strange new hues no human language can name. Heat glows in brilliant patterns. Radio waves shimmer across rooftops. Invisible signals that carry voices across continents ripple through the air like living light.
But the transformation comes at a cost. The more his sight expands, the more the familiar world slips away. Streets grow dim. Faces fade. Everyday objects lose their meaning as the student becomes captivated by the hidden radiance surrounding him.
Soon the experiment pushes further still—past infrared, past radio, toward something no physicist can chart. Shapes appear just beyond the edge of vision. Suggestive movements flicker inside unfamiliar bands of light. The professor who began the research grows uneasy. Some discoveries cannot be reversed.
When the final treatment is given, the student looks into a universe no human being was ever meant to see.
Frank M. Robinson’s Beyond the Ultra-Violet is a haunting piece of classic science fiction that blends speculative physics with deeply human loss. The story moves from scientific curiosity to quiet dread as one man trades the known world for a glimpse of something far stranger.
Frank M. Robinson (1926–2014) built a remarkable career that crossed science fiction writing, journalism, and film. His stories appeared in leading magazines including Astounding Science Fiction, Galaxy, and If. Robinson later wrote novels such as The Power, a chilling tale of hidden psychic dominance that became a major motion picture in 1968.
