“The Faith of Men” is a book by Jack London, an American novelist. A pioneer of commercial fiction and an innovator in the genre that would later become known as science fiction. The Faith of Men is a series of short stories by Jack London. It consists of eight moving and thrilling stories such as: The Faith of Men, Too Much Gold or The Marriage of Lit-lit.
It is 1861 and Thomas Grover has resigned from the US Navy to go with his native state of South Carolina which has left the Union. For two years his career in the new Confederate Navy is tedious and unrewarding. He is posted to Britain as a naval attaché, again denied his wish for active service, until he is transferred to Liverpool where he is offered command of a new warship. Grover must get to sea on the ship and see her armed and commissioned as CSS Palmetto, whose mission will be that of a predator, to range the oceans, seeking out and destroying American vessels wherever they are to be found.Ver libro
Adeline Virginia Woolf was born on the 25th January 1882 in South Kensington in London. Although lauded as a founder of modernist writing with such classics as ‘Orlando’, ‘Mrs Dalloway’ and ‘To the Lighthouse’ and, of course, many classic short stories, her background is filled with elements of tragedy that she somehow overcame to become such a revered writer. Her mother died when she was 13, her half-sister Stella two years later and with it her first of several nervous breakdowns. Appallingly it was later found that three of her half-brothers had sexually abused her so darkness must have seemed ever present. She began writing professionally at age 20 but her father’s death two years later brought a complete mental collapse and she was briefly institutionalised. Somehow she found within herself a literary career and with it great innovations in writing; she was a pioneer of “stream of consciousness”. Her tight circle of friends were the founders of the Bloomsbury Group, a movement whose legacy still influences across the arts and society in many way to this day. Whilst the dark periods continued to interrupt her emotional state her rate of work never ceased. Until, on 28th March 1941, Woolf put on her overcoat, filled up its pockets with stones, and walked into the River Ouse, in Lewes, East Sussex and drowned herself. Her body was not recovered until the 18th April. She was 59. She left behind a note which read in part “Dearest, I feel certain that I am going mad again. I feel we can't go through another of those terrible times. And I shan't recover this time. I begin to hear voices, and I can't concentrate. So I am doing what seems the best thing to do”.Ver libro

"It's dark tonight I hope we aren't seen," a man said to his partner in crime. "It's like the old days we climb in a window and pray not to get caught," said the thief who was known as the Chameleon to his partner the Cat as they stealthily walked through the garden of their mark. "The room is the third window on the second story," said the Cat examining the building. The Chameleon tested the strength of a lattice leading to it going up the wall. This should work I'm surprised people are so careless with security," the Chameleon said laughing. They climbed up the lattice trying not to be pricked by the thorns of the rose that climbed up it as well. "The alarm is off or it should be, but I'll disable it," said the Chameleon. He cut the alarm wire and jimmied the window till it opened. They climbed in the room and looked about it. "The safe is behind that painting," said the Chameleon pointing at the only picture in the room. "Ok who will do the work you or me?" asked the Cat who was as skilled a cracksman as the Chameleon. "It's my turn you did the last job," said the Chameleon who walked over to the picture removing it handing it to the Cat to put down. The Chameleon put his ear to the safe and cracked the lock and opened the door removing the contents out of the safe putting it in a backpack on the Cat's back. "Got it!
