Sinopse

In "The History of Duelling," J. G. Millingen provides a meticulously researched examination of the cultural and historical practices surrounding dueling from antiquity to the 19th century. Millingen employs a narrative style rich with detail, combining historical records, anecdotal evidence, and personal reflections that illuminate the motivations behind this contentious practice. The book serves as a critical analysis of the social and moral implications of dueling, while also addressing its legal ramifications and the irrefutable codes of honor that dictated the lives of men across Europe. Millingen's work stands as both a scholarly account and a compelling narrative, reflecting the ongoing tensions between honor and societal norms in various contexts. J. G. Millingen, an esteemed physician and historian, draws from his profound knowledge of social customs and human behavior to navigate the labyrinthine world of dueling. His insights as a member of the educated elite of the time, coupled with his personal interest in moral philosophy, fuel this exploration of an institution that defined masculinity and honor. Millingen's background allows him to approach the subject with both intellectual rigor and an engaging narrative flair, making his work both authoritative and accessible. "The History of Duelling" is a must-read for anyone interested in the intersections of honor, history, and culture. This is a combo book about the middle ages, which comprises the following titles:
1 - Middle Ages: In the history of Europe, the Middle Ages or Middle Ages time period lasted around from the fifth to the late 15th centuries, likewise to the postclassical period of worldwide history. It started with the fall of the Western Roman Empire and transitioned into the Renaissance and the Age of Discovery.
2 - Black Death: Here we have it: We may be looking at the years 2020-2021 and think a certain virus has been bad for the world population. However, what happened in these two years is nothing, proportionally, to the hundreds of millions of people who got wiped out by rat infestations spreading insanitary bacteria, resulting in the disease and death of huge parts of the European population in the mid-centuries.
The genesis or origin of the Black Death is a point of contention. The epidemic started in Central Asia or East Asia, but it wasn't till 1347 that it made its conclusive presence in Crimea. It spread out through the Mediterranean Basin, reaching Africa, Western Asia, and the remainder of Europe through Constantinople, Sicily, and the Italian Peninsula, probably brought by fleas surviving on black rats carried by Genoese servant ships.
3 - Crusaders: The Crusades are one of those dark chapters in history that we would rather forget, especially religious people. In name of the church, or other religions, like the Muslim faith, people killed, destroyed, looted, and burned cities to the ground. There is nothing “holy” about attacking and plundering, yet this is what they did.
The Crusades were a series of spiritual fights in the Middle Ages period that were begun, supported, and sometimes ordered by the Latin Church.

The world is desperate for cobalt. It drives the proliferation of digital and clean technologies. But this "demon metal" has a horrific present and a troubled history.

The modern search for cobalt has brought investors back to a small town in Northern Canada, a place called Cobalt. Like the demon metal, this town has a dark and turbulent history.

The tale of the early-twentieth-century mining rush at Cobalt has been told as a settle's adventure, but Indigenous people had already been trading in metals from the region for two thousand years. And the events that happened here—the theft of Indigenous lands, the exploitation of a multicultural workforce, and the destruction of the natural environment—established a template for resource extraction that has been exported around the world.

Charlie Angus reframes the complex and intersectional history of Cobalt within a broader international frame—from the conquistadores to the Western gold rush to the struggles in the Democratic Republic of Congo today. He demonstrates how Cobalt set Canada on its path to become the world's dominant mining superpower.

“You have the right to work, but for the work's sake only. You have no right to the fruits of work. Desire for the fruits of work must never be your motive in working. Never give way to laziness, either.

Perform every action with you heart fixed on the Supreme Lord. Renounce attachment to the fruits. Be even-tempered in success and failure: for it is this evenness of temper which is meant by yoga.

Work done with anxiety about results is far inferior to work done without such anxiety, in the calm of self-surrender. Seek refuge in the knowledge of Brahma. They who work selfishly for results are miserable.”
    ― Bhagavad Gita

This German-language edition of the Bhagavad Gita is a talk between prince Arjuna and his charioteer Krishna. At the start of a war between the Pandavas and Kauravas, Arjuna is filled with great despair about the violence the war will cause in the battle against his own kin. He wonders if he should renounce and seeks Krishna's counsel, whose answers constitute the Gita. Krishna counsels Arjuna to "fulfill his duty to uphold the Dharma" through "selfless action".The Krishna–Arjuna dialogues cover a broad range of spiritual topics, touching upon philosophical issues that go far beyond the war According to some, Bhagavad Gita was written by Lord Ganesha and was told to him by Vyasa.

Our problems have been intensifying for a long time, along with our growing numbers and powers. Brought to you by Altrusian Grace Media and narrated by Matthew Schmitz.
Nostradamus’s The Prophecies presents hundreds of tightly compressed quatrains that fracture time and history into symbolic glimpses of upheaval, power, and ruin. The work avoids narrative order; instead it disperses images of kings, empires, celestial disturbances, plagues, and wars across a fog of allegory, where each vision feels suspended between history and imagination. The language is deliberately opaque—layered with astrological references, classical allusions, and oblique metaphors—forcing the reader to navigate a shifting terrain of potential meanings rather than fixed predictions.
